The NBA has reportedly launched an investigation into allegations regarding the Clippers' salary cap compliance. This inquiry has put a hold on planned roster moves for the time being. It is a developing situation that could have significant implications for the team's flexibility moving forward.

The two players in franchise history I absolutely despise are Kawhi Leonard and Chris Paul. And damn Ballmer for putting us in this situation. I hope they take the team away from him.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that the Clippers and Kawhi Leonard are currently under investigation regarding potential fraud, which has reportedly impacted trade discussions with the Toronto Raptors. This is a developing situation that warrants close attention given the potential implications for the organization. What are your thoughts on how this investigation might affect the team's stability moving forward?

We've known this for awhile. This is the aspiration investigation started by Pablo Torre a year ago

What I don't understand is why it's holding up the trade. The player isn't the one who gets punished in these situations. He's the employee. It's the employer who is under investigation, in this case the Clippers. This Toronto trade shouldn't be put on hold

Like I mentioned in the other thread, this isn't a new investigation. This is the Pablo Torre investigation that came up a year ago

Another problem that you mention that I didn't mention in the other thread is that it's now holding the team up but not for overall flexibility. Since Ingram and Dick's salaries more or less match Kawhi's, they can run business as usual but just as long as it doesn't involve Kawhi. For example, they can sign Kuminga and/or Mathurin still and not have to worry about the league putting the deal on hold

For sure- also there is still that trade exception from the John Collins trade Here's an update on the investigation btw- hopefully that timeline stays true:
Quote:
The stunning development came Thursday, when both teams announced the league had halted the deal until the law firm leading the investigation since last September " Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz " completes its work and issues its findings. Yet as an NBA spokesperson said after the teams released their statements, it remains unclear when that might be. “We don’t have a specific timeline for the conclusion of the investigation but expect the firm to finalize its work in the coming weeks,” said the league official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the NBA’s probe is ongoing. The NBA informed the Raptors before they agreed to the trade that the investigation could cause issues with any deal involving Leonard, according to sources briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the league’s probe is ongoing. Yet when the terms of the deal between the Clippers and Raptors were widely reported on June 30, it forced the league " and commissioner Adam Silver " to decide how to handle this unprecedented situation. The league ignored the public pressure that came from the trade being publicized, those sources say, and maintained its stance that trading for Leonard before the investigation was completed meant the Raptors were, as the team said in a statement Thursday, “assuming the risk of any potential outcome” of the investigation. Yet while the league’s handling of the situation isn’t seen as a sign that significant discipline is coming for the Clippers and/or Leonard, the potential for Leonard’s contract to be voided is the primary obstacle in this deal going down. That alone speaks volumes about the continued seriousness of the....

Jesus, the NBA has botched this whole thing up. How can they STILL be investigating? If Pablo Torre was able to "reveal" improper payments from Aspiration to Kawhi, what more is there to gather?

Apparently, there are thousands of pages of documents that need to be gone over. Regardless, the league has thousands of lawyers so there's no reason why this couldn't have been done earlier. I personally think it's possible that Ballmer and Wong are guilty but there just isn't substantial proof. More like a lot of circumstantial evidence that resulted from Uncle Dennis and his bullying

Also, I think that the Clippers are trying to prove that Kawhi's endorsement deal wasn't just a no show deal and that Aspiration, had they stayed in business, eventually would've had Kawhi do commercials and things of that sort

If what you're saying is true, then that's the best we can hope for. I think some kind of board of owners is meeting in mid July. Hopefully, they'll have it done by them.
