Speculation is swirling regarding the future of Bennedict Mathurin as he heads into free
agency. While outside reports suggest other teams might be interested, the
Clippers have the opportunity to secure his services long-term. Keeping a player
of his caliber could be a major boost for the rotation. How much should the front
office be willing to commit to keep him in Los Angeles?

He is young, experienced and smart player with good ball handling and reasonable
scoring ability. He plays tough as well and we need these types of players and I am ok
for the team to little bit of premium but not significantly excessive
amount.
Most likely he will get even better and be an useful player.

We should keep him, but if he isn't in our long term plans then do a sign and trade to get
something back.

Yup, the worst thing one can do is repeat the Austin Reeves situation. He's a solid
player, but the amount he was given is ridiculous.

Depends on what he's willing to settle for. If he's willing to take the room exception then
that would be awesome as they'd have enough for Kuminga
If not, then they have to decide who they value more between the two

Yeah, we have been seen in recent years that some contracts are actually better not
given out. For example, everyone would agree that Jaylen Brown is a good player, but
the amount of money he was given makes it very restrictive to build around him. If a
player is eating up 35-40% of your total salary, he better be a two way player. This
reminds me of how the entire NBA was laughing at us when we let Paul George go for free
rather than extending him, but Philadelphia learned a hard lesson when they gave
George that expensive contract. Sometimes, it is better to let a plyer walk than
hurt yourself by awarding a large contract that restricts you.

Exactly. How Ironic that Philly wound up with Brown in that scenario though. While he's
overpaid like you said, they still dodged a bullet by getting out of PG's deal and
getting an all star in return all in one fell swoop
Back to Mathurin, I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything yet. The L word is trying
to move heaven and earth to try and get Kuminga despite contract limitations on what
they can give out. You would hope that $15 million would be enough to entice him then
give Mathurin a take it or leave it room exception offer

Thank Kawhi for the holdup. I think this might be what's causing us to drag our feet.
SMH. The Clippers better never do something like this again.
