Rockets Unveil New Look Logo and Uniforms

I like that they are going back to the red and yellow. Not wild about the black alternates. NBA team brands seem to work really well when it's just two colors that hit. Silver and black for the Spurs. Green and gold for whenever the Sonics come back and even the L word with purple and gold. When you throw in a 3rd color, it distorts things a bit. Do any of you remember the Sonics introducing red as a 3rd color during the 1995-96 season? Just didn't work well

I don't mind yellow as a trim, if only as an outer trim.

Can you post pics of the SuperSonics red? I seemed to be ok with the way it was used.

Ok, now I see the new logos, at the end of the video.

1). Yield sign logo: Completely unnecessary. There doesn't need to be this many logos.

And why even a yield sign? You want rockets to overpower, not yield.

2). R logo: Never liked this one too much. Now it's even worse. I don't like the yellow on the bottom of the R.

Should have kept the yellow to only the circle part 3/4 of the way down, and above.

3). Astronaut: Way too much yellow. Just leave the yellow to the outline.

The best old logo is at 0:25, with the rocket shooting out of the basketball. I would have gotten rid of the white and kept it only red and blue, but the overall design is much better.

4). Black jerseys:

I don't like the yellow jumpman. Should have made it red to match the color of the letters / numbers.

5). White jersey: This is fine, but both a red and yellow trim, is too much.

6). Red jersey: Again, having a yellow and white trim, is too much.

Overall video:

They have the voiceover randomly say "championship caliber". That reeks of desperation. If you're championship caliber, you don't need to say it out loud. People will just know.

There also isn't a well defined story in the video. It's just guys wearing jerseys.

Given the way the setup is with the setting split into two colors, and all of the color coordinated basketballs, I was expecting the setting to be integrated into the voiceover and overall story better.

If you're going to have a visual setting, then use it. Give us the meaning of the colors, or hype it up somehow. Don't try to have the visuals of the two colors sit passively in the background. Really incorporate it.

Otherwise, just do something simpler and have guys wearing jerseys in a gym.

Also, a former broadcaster has said that teams that change colors and logos usually aren't the best franchise.

There's something to be said about a team keeping the same branding for decades.

They gave examples of Green Bay Packers, Kentucky basketball.

They said do not be like the Oregon Ducks.

They said pick one style, and stick with it.

But during many games in these playoffs, they keep doing the Fiesta colors.

Bad, bad, bad, bad.

Agree all the way. They haven't used that fiesta logo since 2002 when they left the Alamodome. I really hope we never have to see that color scheme again. I'm hoping that the fiesta color bs that we've seen isn't some sign of things to come

Very good breakdown. I'll see if I can post the Sonics red but it's what they used from 1995-2001. If you google "Payton Kemp Sonics" or just "Seattle Sonics 1997", you'll see the red incorporated

The Yield sign logo is the main logo while the other two are considered "secondary" logos but yeah, you don't need that many logos and the one they came up with is lame. I like teams that keep or bring back a good logo from old and just change the color scheme. I don't mind the red and yellow as that's not as commonly seen in the NBA as the more worn out blue and red so bringing back the "rocket coming out of the ball" logo but changing it from blue and red to red and yellow would've worked

Reiterating what I said about two colors working better than four or more, I had no problem with the actual non jumpman uniforms as they went purely at red and yellow and I just think teams look better with two colors complimenting each other as opposed to trying to mesh in more than two. I'll start a new thread about Minnesota's new branding and touch on that

This is true. The NBA has the Knicks, L word and Celtics as examples. Even the Bulls, Blazers and Heat to a certain extent

I get mad when I think about the Blazers because they've changed their court too much, over the past few decades.

This is true. I guess I'm basically saying that the color scheme and pinwheel logo have stayed the same even though there have been variations of the pinwheel as well as the wordmark on the uniforms

That, and they had a court with the paint non colored and the area outside the paint colored. I don't like that look on any court.

Oh yeah, those are the worst. Another reason that I'm against the in season tournament. Thanks a lot Boise State football for a horrible trend
