No More Countdown: Intuit Dome Is Here

Clippers Forum » Clippers News & General Discussions

Awesome arena! Along with the halo board and the wall, ID has hands down the best upper concourse in the league. Really cool how you can see the game from the concourse. While you can do it from places like Houston, Milwaukee and Sacramento as well, there is just something cool about seeing the Halo board and the neat blue lighting while walking the upper concourse

I also really liked the view from the very steep escalator ride as the escalators are situated right between the bowl and the Clipper team offices. You can see everyone's work station as well as their break room and so on then look out towards Sofi Stadium and the bowl when you look the other way

The opening lineups presentation is also something to behold. All NBA arenas do that thing where you turn out the lights and have some sort of video on the board depicting the region of where the team is located and showing the players in action but there is just something above and beyond about seeing it on the halo board. The Clippers are finally embracing the nautical theme of the Clipper brand and it's really manifests itself in the opening lineups presentation. The roster coming out of the water like Godzilla or Navy Seals was a cool touch

As for the game, this was their worst outing of the season but still a fun game. I always like it when it comes down to the wire as competition is always a good thing even if your team is on the wrong side of the score

Can you post a pic from another arena, that has something different than "exposed piping"?

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't understand what they were doing with this, or why. Now I do.

Sorry the delay in going through this thread. I want to only read it when I'm relaxed and able to pay close attention to your descriptions and pics.

How was The Wall during the game?

How was The Wall during the game?

Depends on which game. Like I mentioned in another thread, a lot depends on the opponent and night of the week. For this particular game where I did the Twitter/X tour, I unfortunately chose the worst game of the year. Bad opponent, Tuesday night and it was the night that the Dodgers clinched the championship. Lousy crowd and I was surprised we even had that many people given the circumstances. All that considered, the crowd in the wall was lame

OTOH, I also went to Kawhi's debut on a Saturday night as well as the L word's visit. On those two occasions, the wall was jumping

Yeah, most arenas have the media area at the very top of the arena. Staples/Crypto has been like that since it opened. I'm actually gonna do a tour of it when I go to the Clipper Laker game on February 28th as the renovation is 100% complete. I'll include it in the pics. I thought it was neat that ID carved out a special area in the upper regions of the lower bowl

I thought it would've made more sense to just have Southern California high schools being that the Clippers are located in SoCal but the cool thing about it is trying to find certain high schools or even your own high school. Being that I went to high school in the bay area, that wouldn't have been possible had they just put SoCal jerseys up there so that was cool

It's basically just where you see ceiling covering the piping as opposed to just leaving it exposed with no ceiling to cover it. Look at the bottom right picture where there is the pizza hut. The ceiling is pretty low there so that tells me that there was extra piping just above it but they didn't like the idea of it being exposed or having that "industrial look" so they made sure to cover it with tiles and that round figure. Some places like the industrial look and others thing it looks outdated

The countdown clock is cool and is an overall good thing. I just think that Ballmer may have overstepped a bit in his quest to have everyone "pumping and thumping" in the stands. As opposed to G1 Center in Sacramento where Vivek liked the idea of using technology so that fans could have better Wi-Fi on their phones during the game, Ballmer wants everyone paying attention to the game which is a good thing. The problem is that by not putting tv screens in the concourses or tables where people can eat, he's putting people at a disadvantage who need to use the restroom or want to get concessions during the game. For every fan that feels like taking 10 minutes to eat at a hypothetical table on the concourse, there are 500 that are "pumping and thumping" in the stands.

Does it really change the atmosphere that much if you have 36 people in the concourse grabbing a bite to eat as long as you have over 17,000 cheering in the bowl? Maybe that's something they can think about when they make minor changes and upgrades over the years. While there are tables tucked away at the back of the patio area that I showed on one of the tweets, there are other larger swaths of space in the upper concourse where you could put tables

Do you have threads for those two games?

Are those water pipes?

Gas line pipes?

Thanks for explaining why the ceiling was low in Houston.

So do you think they could have put a screen in the bottom right of this pic?

Not me but I'm sure David started threads for them as he does for every game. I'm gonna check the highlights that he posted to see how it may show a more rambunctious atmosphere in the wall as opposed to the first couple games

nuraman00 wrote:

Great thinking. There's more space in that concession area than in any other spot on the upper concourse. That would be a great start

Thanks for explaining why the ceiling was low in Houston.

Great question. I believe the majority of them are water pipes but could be wrong

Did you take pics for those games? If so, can you post those?

Thanks.
