Injury - 'No Timetable' for Kawhi Leonard Return

Clippers Forum » Clippers News & General Discussions

Very unfortunate, but the Clippers apparently felt Kawhi can stay healthy enough for them to extend him. This can’t be good as it has been almost half a year. Strange too how Clippers claimed that Kawhi could’ve continued the Olympics while now reports say he was injured.

David I don't know what they were thinking. Any first year med student would know that his knee was questionable. Several months back I gave links to several reputable orthopedic journals. In most of us it would be OK but with him it was qyestionable.because of his size and the stresses put on his knee makes it iffy. Inflammation that continued as long as it did last year shoulf gave told them something. Also if you have a procedure dune there is usually a high percent chance you will get better. If you have it done twce, worry. More than likely there is some problem maybe only a couple of millimeters off. He is done. He should have retired.

Options are limited. More surgery, cortisone inections, blood injections or prayer. Are we stucck with his salary. It has been obvious for a long time that they should have kept PG yet they placed him in a position that it was highly unlikely that he would return

It's hard to get excited about this season. We shouldn't have done 213 in the first place

Is this a way of tanking without tanking?

Stephen A really tore into Kawhi today. Stuff about playing last year until he got the extension and then same old Kawhi stuff started again.

Another dumb clipper move. And we will likely see Russell W hoist another trophy while we are stuck with old broken down guys. And we did it to ourselves!

Yeah knowing Kahwi's history, it's surprising that they were eager to do the extension- why not wait like they did with PG13? Who was the doctor that gave the Clippers the green light that Kawhi would be a good bet for another 3 years? If Kawhi wants to do the right thing he should retire so the Clippers have the cap space back. 213 had its moments when healthy, but it's time for 310 or 562 lol.

I’m over this Kawhi experiment. Is he a great player when healthy? Absolutely!! However I’m ready for this young fellas to get minutes. I feel it’s time to put TJay confidence in TMann and balance him with Jordan Miller and Kobe. Them 3 can really help the team.

Bottom line. This seasson is down the drain but we will have huge cap space for next season. Zu, Powell Mann and an old Harden, Powell will probably start at SG. We have zero bench. This is all from Front Office F ups. No point lookng back. I don't know if I even care about this season.. Maybe $30 for my ticket Will we have to give them away like before?. Back to the days when people come to see the other team

They knew darn well 2 years ago that Leonard was done

OKC got our pick swap too

I doubt it but what happens to KL's salary if he retires? which will be right after the landing of naked alien strippers

I believe that if he chooses to retire, he doesn't get paid but he still counts against the cap for roughly half the time that's left on the contract. So for example, if he has 4 years remaining when he retires, it will still count against the Clipper cap for 2 seasons

The more realistic scenario is that he agrees to a buyout. He has already made a ton of money and may eventually get sick of rehab and surgery and just decide to say screw it but I still want to get paid something. At that point, the Clippers and Kawhi, assuming he agrees to it, can buy out half his contract. So for example, if he has 4 years left on the deal at $160 million for $40 million per season, they could make it 4 years and $80 million for $20 per season or cut the years in half and say 2 years and $80 million and go back to $40 million per season but be out from under the contract in just those 2 seasons

Am I the only one hopeful that our gang can keep us afloat until KL2 is back?

Maybe he comes back and is a shell of himself.

Maybe he comes back and gets hurt again.

I am excited either way.

Bummed very much at what could have been, but hopeful for what may be.

To me, it's a win win situation. If the youngsters can rise up and shock people like we see on annual basis from some team that comes out of nowhere....then great

If not...then maybe it's time to start thinking about revving up the tank, getting way under the cap then start signing free agents and drafting top notch players whenever we have our own pick. I thought it was this year but someone said we have to swap with OKC but whatever. You can start a soft rebuild now then be in position to draft in a year then look towards free agency in 2 or 3 years.

Tired of this. But it is what it is.

I watched the whole video. I think a lot of us are unaware of this:

Highlights of the video:

1) Clippers are being sued by Kawhi's former trainer for getting fired as punishment for trying to advocate for Kawhi

2) Kawhi's timetable required 780 days for rehab after playoff injury 2 years ago due to prior damage to knee. (We gave him one year)

3) Kawhi tore a meniscus, and had structural damage to knee in multiple places after we ran him on back to backs and heavy minutes last regular season vying for playoff position.

4) Lawrence Frank lied to Kawhi and his trainer, telling him health is the priority then forced him to play heavy minutes before trainer's Go Ahead

In short, our FO was shortsighted with Kawhi, and we're doomed to have him chronically injured until we give him Hella time off to really come back 100%.
