Kawhi Leonard Signed A Four-year Deal To Stay!

Clippers Forum » Clippers News & General Discussions

This is huge. No more free agency next summer. Let’s focus on building chemistry with our roster

Definitely huge. Don't have to play this cat and mouse game anymore.

Now we have to win at least one title in these four years.

This is the exact thing I thought when I saw this thread. I didn't want him to opt in to the final year just to go to free agency again. However, given the bubble and last year's injury, I want two titles from Kawhi and Paul. For all the crap we've gone through we deserve it.

That's good, now let us at least win 2 titles with him here

That's definitely reassuring. Hope Kawhi has a speedy and complete recovery and be ready for before playoffs!

Let's start with one, then go from there.

Obviously, we can't have two before we have one. But two is his penance.

Definitely awesome news.

Hm? Butler is a good player who made it to the finals although... It's still a lot for him.

KL it's a lot as well for a sort of injury prone guy " but Hey we've never had a guy like him. Lol so go Clippers

Kawhi has 3 chips with 3 different teams which pretty much opens him up to max without question. Jimmy Buckets has empty "spirit fingers" and a bubble finals appearance. You also have Wall and Westbrick making more. Yeah, he's getting paid what he deserves. Klay hasn't played in years but he got a contract while rehabbing.

1 Stephen Curry, PG Golden State Warriors $45,780,966

2 James Harden, SG Brooklyn Nets $44,310,840

3 John Wall, PG Houston Rockets $44,310,840

4 Russell Westbrook, PG Los Angeles Lakers $44,211,146

5 Kevin Durant, PF Brooklyn Nets $42,018,900

6 LeBron James, SF Los Angeles Lakers $41,180,544

7 Giannis Antetokounmpo, PF Milwaukee Bucks $39,344,970

8 Damian Lillard, PG Portland Trail Blazers $39,344,900

9 Paul George, SG LA Clippers $39,344,900

10 Klay Thompson, SG Golden State Warriors $37,980,720

Who cares and what difference does it make? They should all be taking a knee and thanking God and this country for their incredible wealth.

Uh, I think they should do what they want. Are you waking up today and thanking god and this country today? Are you working with your community to make it better? Are you using your wealth or free time to donate to good causes? Most of these players do that and I know for a fact that Kawhi does.

Don't fall off your soapbox.

It's 2 by the way, Toronto and spurs but who's counting lol hopefully the 3rd is with us soon.

Anything to avoid huge taxes penalties my friend. Irs would be knocking.

35+ is a lot for any player but an healthy one we can be leaning it.

Russell he's a beast tho if u talking stats and harden, bron and dame too

Injury prone players it's a lot but the franchise have to keep fans and more to keep viewers etc.

Let's go Clippers

Do what they want? The point is why squabble over a paltry couple of million when you’re making 40M a year for dribbling a basketball. Obviously Kawhi didn’t so why should we be so concerned? Stop being such an ungrateful partisan hack.

Russell and Dame can't lead a herd to water if they were on a boat. Dame and Russell got max money playing for small markets to keep them. Russell is on his 4th team in 4 years if I am not mistaken. Beal wanted to out of Washington till they got rid of Russell. Now he wants to stay...Go figure.

I did say stats

Stop being a self-righteous religious zealot on a sports message board. Asking others to get on their knees and thank YOUR god is what is wrong with this world right now. If all they do is dribble a basketball, why do you watch?

This is a sports message board and I don't remember religion or patriotism having anything to do with his salary. Why go there? Bantering over salaries is very common in a sports message board. You act as if this is uncommon. You brought up "god and country". Unfuqinbelievable.

Who are you to dictate what can and cannot be discussed. I voiced my opinion so deal with it...otherwise if you’re that sensitive you can always run away and ignore.

Excuse me? Didn't you come into this discussion telling us what players should be doing? Or telling us discussing what one player is worth is squabbling? Who are you to dictate what we or players should be doing? Weren't you the one that said, " They should all be taking a knee and thanking God and this country for their incredible wealth"?!?!?!

Good, thank god it wasn't that 1+1 deal. Now we can focus as a team

HCQ? Being used effectively all over the planet but I’ve never had it. Yes I said that is what I think they should be doing. Just like when we say they should practice their free throws or not go to strip bars. I didn’t tell you what you can and can’t do on the board. Unlike you, Captain Snowflake, as long as you’re not breaking the law I’m fine with you having the right to say what you want.

Man, that spirit fingers meme was classic. I haven't seen that in years. When I see those numbers of basketball players' earnings, I feel like a fool not having taken up sports. Wow. I think you would purposely have to find a way to lose money to spend that much in a lifetime.

Man, I feel the same way. I'm just tired of his sh#t to be honest. I just wished he would have signed the contract right away. Does anyone know if we can use that 9.5 million for injury exception or is that out the window?

I think I read that they cannot use the exception but I'm not sure.

I would love for him to have signed right away but I think he was weighing his options. There were different types of deals that he could sign and wasn't sure what would be best. For example, he could've done another 1 and 1 had he been in perfect health but since he wasn't, he probably decided that going for length would be best.

While it's good for the fans that he's signed long term, there's always the concern that he did it because he's possibly worried that this injury is gonna rob him of some skills and if he doesn't grab the bag now, he may never get this opportunity again. Sign a 1 plus 1 and have this injury linger and he could wind up in Dennis Schroeder's shoes.

I'm glad you brought up the Dennis Schroeder situation. This MAY have played some part in him finally signing. Although I still think Kawhi could easily have attracted other bidders. Nonetheless, the front office did a fantastic job. When you look at the other team that was in a similar situation as us, the Atlanta Hawks, their owner blatantly said something along the lines of them not bringing everyone back. Our front office and owner brought everyone back, brought in a role player to help ease the burden of Kawhi's injury, drafted three rookies, and best of all did not mortgage their depth by chasing some player that may be a big name but not necessarily fit with the team (aka, Russell Westbrook). I couldn't be happier with this offseason.
