OJ Mayo Possibly to Clippers Rumor

I have NEVER liked this guy...what is it about him people are so keen on? He was horrible in Memphis and while he started hot last year in Dallas, he was a non-factor at the December 2012 game vs. us at staples. He just seems like a name with nothing to back itu p.

Rather have Affalo to be honest.Mayo seems like he has a bad attitude and isn't consistent at all.Affalo is a very good fit for us.We need defense and 3 point shooting and Affalo gives us both.Mayo is the better scorer but we don't need that because we have Crawford who is instant offense.

He needs to be the primary option on offense or at least close to it, otherwise he sputters badly. I would rather have J.J. Redick over him.

Yeah I made it like that so that the the posts are on the left side which makes it especially easier to read if you are on a smaller screen (like a phone). It takes a little getting used to, but I'm sure you will in no time

Well if we get OJ Mayo, that would end the Afflalo scenario.

While I think Afflalo may be a better fit for us, if we can get Mayo without giving up Bledsoe, I'm all for it. He gives us a nice 3rd scoring option and helps space the floor well.

Unfortunately, the only way we'd get a 2 way player that can shoot and play d is if we trade bled for one (Afflalo).

please no Mayo. I think people are just remembering rookie year mayo, and all of his potential and all of that. This guy has gone down hill since his rookie year. He's not really that good.

OJ Mayo > Reddick. That's for sure.

IDK about Afflalo though. I really like both, more offense with Mayo, but more defense Afflalo.

Mayo is younger and will come cheaper. And defense can be tought under a good system with Doc and CP3, not so much offense thats why I'm leaning more towards Mayo over Afflalo.

AND, Mayo is a WAY better 3 point shooter.

No, defense can improve with the right system and coaching.

Offense not really. And like I said mayo is younger and is about to hit his prime.

Defense isn't something that can't be changed/improved. Remember that, and its not Like Mayo is a bad defender to begin with.

OJ got completely called out by one of the best coaches in the league for his lack of effort last year. I don't think his attitude is one of a winner and if he can't play under Carlisle, I doubt there is a coach that can get the effort out of him.

i agree. he is the sniper we need. solid defender as well. in case we trade ebled, he can play some point guard. by the way, welcome aboard.

Mayo is a very good offensive player and a good defender as well. I'd like to have him, but i'm not sure how well he'd fit in. As long as we have Jamal Crawford coming off the bench, our 3rd option offensively is going to have to come at either the SF or C position, otherwise there will be a clash with minutes. OJ is a combo guard at only 6'4, so he can play either SG or PG. He's just like Crawford in the sense that he has the ability to play point but you'd prefer him not to. He's also undersized to play SF just like Crawford, so I don't see how having both him and Crawford could work out.

Crawford comes off the bench, not to mention he's 34. That's how he'd fit in.

I really like Mayo because he's ridiculously efficient in catch and shoot situations. He was one of the best (or even the best) shooters in this category last year, playing with dallas awful point guards. He could easily be our starting 2, making a 4-man rotation on the wings with Afflalo, Barnes, Crawford and Bullock. Realistically speaking, the ideal clippers squad this year IMO is:

CP3 / Green / FA

Mayo / Crawford

Afflalo / Barnes

Griffin / Odom

DJ / FA

I say realistically because I don't believe we'll be able to trade DJ for a clear upgrade. I'd rather not trade him, thus.

OJ, Afflalo, or REddick are my choices. Either one of these guys would be a good 2 for us

Once, Doc Rivers was close to coaching O.J. Mayo in Boston. Late last night, he talked to Mayo about possibility of playing for Clippers.

Would love Mayo! If he accepts 5.5 mill MLE take him immediately. CP3+Blake need to recruit the fu** out of him.

Can someone explain one thing to me? If we were willing to go over the luxury tax (which seems inevitable) then what in the CBA keeps us from just offering a guy like OJ $7 or $8 mil? Why do we have to use the MLE if we're gonna be tax payers anyway? (I'm not necessarily saying we should do that, just asking why we can't).

You can't offer a player more than what you have in cap. If you're not a tax paying team (we aren't yet) you get a full 5.5 million dollar mid level exception to spend on 1 or multiple players. If you DO pay taxes you get the mini mid which is about 3 million. Teams under the cap get both the available salary to spend AND full MLE. So we can't offer Mayo 7-8 million because our MAX is the 5.5 mill MLE. Although a 2 million dollar paycut may be worth it to play under Doc with BG+CP3 for years and chances at titles.

I think there's a hard cap around $73 mil that they call the apron. If you're over it, you can only use mle. That said, I don't see how the nets can sign everyone and add korver too.
