OJ Mayo Possibly to Clippers Rumor (P. 2)

With Doc wanting OJ, I think we are getting OJ and that might involve getting rid of Butler somehow to offer OJ the 7-8 mil. he would be after. I am a bit worried about our SF situation more than the SG situation. Mayo would mean we trade Bledsoe, Green or Crawford as it just does not make sense to have 4 players, which are so similar. I think we might end up getting OJ and trading Bledsoe for DeRozan, which would give us both starting SG and starting SF, who can score at will...and play little credible defense (huh)?

I remember being mad that we didn't get Mayo in the 08 Draft. O.J. is a poor mans James Harden and the perfect 3rd player on a contender.

Nets are adding Korver with the 3.1 million dollar mini mid which ALL teams get.

You can't offer a player more than what you have in cap. If you're not a tax paying team (we aren't yet) you get a full 5.5 million dollar mid level exception to spend on 1 or multiple players. If you DO pay taxes you get the mini mid which is about 3 million. Teams under the cap get both the available salary to spend AND full MLE. So we can't offer Mayo 7-8 million because our MAX is the 5.5 mill MLE. Although a 2 million dollar paycut may be worth it to play under Doc with BG+CP3 for years and chances at titles.

Got it, thanks. Just seems like teams like the Lakers & Nets have an unfair advantage because their teams were so far over the tax before the CBA so if their owners don't care about money, they can stay up there & teams like us can't even get up there if we wanted to.

But if we move Butler's expiring for a pick, to a team that misses in FA like Det, possibly even S&T with Dallas, then we can give Mayo $8-$9 right?

Trust me it will change. A lot of teams already are trying hard to shed cap because of the death tax penalties. Knicks, Nets and Lakers know they only have a 2 year window at best so are going all in. They will blow up their teams after 2 more seasons.

I believe the Clippers, or at least Doc Rivers wants Mayo simply to keep Bledsoe and DJ here. Problem is, I really fear Bledsoe's restricted free agency after next season. We can't pay Bledsoe oodles of money, and DJ is making way to damn much. Unless Doc can somehow coax Bledsoe into signing an extension to take less money.

I will be absolutely crushed if we lose Bledsoe for nothing. Seems Doc wants the current team in place to make 1 big push for a Championship, win it and if we lose Bledsoe for nothing he will say at least we got a ring out of it. 1 ring can't replace multiple rings if we got players locked up long-term.

This is a possibility. Front office needs to go behind Doc's back and trade Bledsoe if they think something out there is really great. Honestly, if the Magic really did offer up Nicholson, Afflalo and a 1st rounder for Butler and Bledsoe I would have pounced on that without a 2nd thought. That is a steal if there ever was one.

Doc Rivers loves playing defensive PG's at the 2 spot, see Avery Bradley. His goal this past season was to start Rondo and Bradley together, but sadly Bradley was injured for part of the year then Rondo bit the dust. Like I said before, I have no problem using Bledsoe at the 2 spot to start. He's a great defender, and yes I realize he is shorter than most all SG's but CP3 also guards shooting guards as well.

I'd just rather trade Bledsoe and/or DJ if teams are knocking down the door.

O.J. Mayo is scheduled to meet with the Clippers, Bucks, Pistons and Jazz today in Beverly Hills. He met with the Wolves late last night.

Looking at a purely basketball aspect we are the best option for him from that list, but of course money talks.

The only thing i'm good at in life is posting twitter updates, i have a dull life.

If we had a choice between OJ and Afflalo, I would take afflalo (even if I can't spell his name).

If the Clips has to trade Bled, Mayo would be my top choice because I think he'll fit in the best compared to the other choices. I think Mayo will elevate his game to another level playing alongside CP3.

With the report of Doc calling OJ personally last night, I think this is one rumor with some traction behind it.

U can't tell how he'll literally fit until he's on our team. But numbers are the next best thing. So yeah, comparing our needs to his career numbers, I did do that.

Mayo does look like the best player, until you start looking at some of those advanced statistics.

Not saying I'd want to do this but if you send Bled/Willie to Dal for OJ, we'd still have the midlevel to use on another piece. I think AK47 is too focused on money to come to L.A. for 5.5mil per year but something like that could be possible.

Could even try to bring the Knicks into something like this if they really want DJ..The Mavs would probably have to come up with something else in order to make this work, maybe they send that to NY and we end up with Chandler as well.

Don´t think Bled is involved in that S&T. OJ would be a direct swap to Butler salary wise and thus we keep Bled, which seems to be Docs intention anyways with just adding more pieces to the most of the squad we had last season.

We keep Bled & the MLE while DAL at least gets Butler if OJ is leaving anyways.

The Dallas trade talks are definitely involving Bledsoe. There is literally no point whatsoever to waste 8 mill on Butler's contract, he's not a consolation prize for losing Mayo.

I don't really want OJ but if this trade goes through at least the clippers still have the MLE + Butler's expiring to use.

Them wanting only Chauncey would be a dream come true. I would HATE to lose Barnes, but much as I don't want to admit it Caron may be a better mentor for Bullock than Barnes would be. Ugh, that left a bad taste in my mouth just saying that.

When they started talking KG from Celtics, I wanted to see what a team that had Barnes & KG in it would look like. Damn! Maybe we can ship Billups to the Nets for KG. Who's Deron William's backup PG right now anyway?

If Mavs fail to land Howard i don´t see them taking billups over barnes. The only reason to have mr big shot is to tutor bledsoe and larkin. I´m not sure that would be necessary if the Mavs aren´t a top notch contender. If they want to be a dark horse pick, Barnes is more useful and will actively make the team better with his effort.

That being said, of course I´d like them to take Chauncey. I like OJAM a lot.
