Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets Summer League 2025-07-17

Clippers Forum » Clippers Game Day

What are your expectations for the Summer League game versus the Denver Nuggets? Who on our Summer League roster will impress the coaching staff? Who on the summer squad should Los Angeles focus the D on? Will the game be a learning experience or a tryout session? Are there any undrafted players to watch?

Nugs are 0-3. Clippers need to run up score to get better playoff chance.

That was absolutely embarrassing. Horrible for the program. Poulakidis is horrific. I have no desire to see what's there. Once I saw him have a couple breakdowns on defense and not be able to dribble, I said... no thanks. Zavier Simpson isn't a bad player, but there's no way on Earth this guy wants to spend his remaining prime years doing the Xavier Moon thing. Just stay in the International game and ball out. He couldn't handle ball pressure from EJ Liddell or either of the Jones's. Dude was getting covered up, losing his handle. That was sad, and he was one of our better players tonight. End of the day.. he don't belong here. NO TLue! You don't a small ass, quick Point Guard who offers very little. The game is evolving. Your kind is becoming extinct. Deal with it. Get bigger guys. Cam Christie showed that he better be ready for at least one more G League season. Not having Yanic or Kobe Brown brought out the worst in all our guys. Once those deficiencies were flushed out, it showed that Cam isn't NBA ready. No shot creation vs anyone even kinda quick. Can't get his base or his feet under him with no air space. Shot selection is set to "try to make the team..." He's further away than I thought, but I like where he's headed. Same with Trentyn Flowers. He's another year out from finding out if he's even NBA material. He's so out of control. I feel like I'm watching a HS game. Could be good, but he needs a go-to move. There needs to be something he can get to when he's not shooting well. PBJ is gonna struggle to make it. He's Diet, Sugar Free Michael Beasley. No defense or rebounding, just like Beasley... cause they're....

Okay, I'm frustrated. I don't usually leave posts as long as my last one, and I don't think I've ever back to back posted before...

...but I'm still on this SL thing. This is a program builder, but we're not playing Clipper basketball. What is this?

We have no backup Center. There doesn't appear to be anything that looks similar to anything these guys can take to the big team.

How are they supposed to make it if they don't play the same style? Why isn't there a single PnR initiator that does Harden's role?

Why doesn't anyone trying for this team play out of the high post like Kawhi?

I realize he didn't play, but why wasn't Yanic getting more ugly forced opporutnities on the block?

Our guys can't make an entry pass, but if they get GLeague stats... they fill in for an injured guy and can't throw a pass down low to Zu??

And look.... I get it..... Summer League is Summer League..... but where's the transition into our real team?

I don't see a connectivity at all, and I don't see these kids building translatable skills. It's like... "Do this. Oh, you can't? Cut!"

Denver looks like hot garbage talent wise, but those guys play like Denver.

They're tough, strong, they rebound, the give defensive effort, and they all compliment Joker.

We got a young, exciting, rim running Center who ran 1 or 2 Pick n' Rolls in all his games so far.

Make this make sense to me....

Highlights:

The first half was the worst I have seen any Clipper team look. Miller is WAY better than anyone else on our team.

As stated above, Christie is unquick and bad.

Flowers has some quickness but does not seem to have a plan on what he is trying to do.

Jury is out on Pat Baldwin. Has some moments but does not seem explosive or quick.

All the games we looked like a health club pick up team. I get there is not much time to coach people up, but they looked unorganized all the time.

No big man? What gives? You could see what YKN means to that squad. No YKN, no chance.

Ouch. That sounds like a summer league coaching issue but if not, that hurts since we're gonna be counting on some of these guys in the event that our veterans inevitably get hurt

Good post. Normally, I give the SL teams the benefit of the doubt because they are told to work on their weaknesses. Two of the best examples I can give are from the 2002 SL and then the 2022 SL. In 2002, the Warriors strutted out a loaded SL team featuring 2nd year guys Troy Murphy, Jason Richardson and Gilbert Arenas plus the 3rd pick in the draft, Mike Dunleavy Jr. They were the most stacked team in the SL but strangely, they struggled and went like 1-3. This was back when the SL was still in Long Beach so I used to attend in person and write internet articles since none of the games were televised. I remember all the Warrior fans in the stands just miffed at how bad the team was playing. Not a lot of hope for the season considering that 3/5ths of the regular season starting lineup and the 6th man were right there getting their ass handed to them in SL but lo and behold, the Warriors turned out to be halfway decent and almost made the playoffs at 38-44. I thought about it and realized that there were a number of reasons for why they struggled worse in SL as opposed to the regular season against actual NBA teams and there are two things going on. One is that guys are told to work on their weaknesses and two, most of the Dub players were already under contract so they weren't playing for their livelihood. Fast forward 20 seasons and you have OKC playing with Chet, JDub, JWil, Wiggins, Josh Giddy and a few others that would be on their championship team or at least the previous two seasons where they got to the play in and then the 2nd round of the WC playoffs.....

PBJ is gonna struggle to make it. He's Diet, Sugar Free Michael Beasley. No defense or rebounding, just like Beasley... cause they're trying to force him into the post area, and the shot selection is awful....

Hate to say this, but Jordan Miller doesn't have it. He's not quick enough, and he doesn't make up for it by being able to run pick n' roll or anything else. All his drives, moves, and shots are created on deception. Not everyone in the NBA sucks on defense. Some guys remember to guard that stuff. The defense is mediocre vs bad players. The rebounding isn't there. He doesn't seem strong enough. I wish we could've traded him while we had a shot. He could play on a bad team's 2nd unit and make some plays here n' there, but the situation has to be perfect. Not here though. Good college player, but as soon as the size and athleticism get to a certain threshold... he's pretty overwhelmed, ineffective.

I'd like to see if Jahmyl Telfort can play on the GLeague team. He's strong, he hustles, and he can kinda shoot. Kobe Sanders needs to be on our GLeague team. He's the only player that from start to finish has played smart..........

This is the scary part. Most of the board seems to think that he has a future and can be a part of the bench rotation. Based on what I said in the previous post, you have to wonder where he falls meaning the category of players who are playing hard and for a roster spot or the guys who are working on their weaknesses. Given that his place on the team isn't a given, you would think that he would be battling so if he's not good in SL then that's a red flag warning sign

I didn't see any games. Patrick Baldwin Jr. 16 point and 8 boards in 27 minutes looks good on paper, no?

Patrick Baldwin did have moments. Jacked lots of 3's all summer league and was not very good at it. Miller way better than anyone we had out there.

Denver killed Lakers last night. How were they 0-3 before sweeping LA teams?

Memphis killed Clips to end summer league. Miller was only one with decent stats. We went 3-2, but would have been 0-5 without Miller.
