He is the backup point guard we need. Crazy he averages 7ast per game only playing 25mpg. He still has the bball iq.

Good news for sure- just hope he stays healthy. No wonder the Clippers traded Mann & KPJ lol. Gonna be a lot more small ball with Simmons at center.

Was that a gamble by the clippers to trade Mann and KPJ before the buyout market opened or something was cooking between Clippers and Simmons? Lol

I know right? "Gamble" heheh

Smh! Can we just give Jordan Miller the minutes!!!

Even though we did not trade for any star players, we at least got better than what we were before the trade deadline.

Not sure why he fell so far out the rotation, he was good when he got minutes. But he isn’t a Pg, so we still need Simmons.

I was hoping for Dennis Shriner to be bought out but he’s a bargain plus he hrs assist and rebound. Just don’t have him on the floor when we put the other team on a penalty. Don’t want to watch him avoiding the ball since he doesn’t want to shoot free throw

I won't say anything bad about him as I haven't given him the chance to play for us... but I won't say anything good either as he has barely played for anyone.

Some of us Clipper fans have ptsd from that kinda thing... i wonder kaWhy.

They still will. Simmons will just take the backup PG minutes that used to go to KPJ

ESPN seems to think that Ben Simmons will try to be utilized as a replacement of TMann, and I laughed a bit.

Even KPJ is funny...

Either I am really low on him, or y'all are in for a rude awakening.

I envision a less capable defender Dunn... just a bit larger.

He may have some playmaking in him that helps, hopefully this offsets the lack of play-drawing from TLue

Maybe I'm wrong but its not happening. For starters a player on a two-way contract only gets 50 games to play with the main team. Jordan Miller is already at 48 games played so he'll need his two-way deal to be converted into a standard NBA contract for him to stay with the main squad. And secondly, its Bogdan Bogdanovic time. We need shooting in the worst way possible right now. Miller lost confidence in his jumper and stopped shooting it when he sparingly got minutes and his slowed down Euro-step move stopped being effective. Good defense but his three ball was the key for him moving up to the next level and receiving a NBA contract. Also the kid from Milwaukee, MarJon Beauchamp, might move ahead of him if he knocks down a few more three pointers in garbage time.

Now the guy that did get a two-way deal converted to a mulit-year deal is the kid we really screwed up on letting go. The Mouse is Loose!! Diabate is turning into a beast! Another Taliban Ty Lue and Lawrence Frank special! Good job as usual in the development department!

Moussa Diabate was one of the casualties due to the Clippers futile experiment with PG and KL.

Taliban Ty Lue and Lawrence Frank lol!! Gotta love it. It would be funnier if it wasn't our squad employing these guys. This is where Ballmer has come up short. His loyalty to Frank and now Lue is hurting this franchise

referenced this in another thread not titled "Clippers to sign Ben Simmons" lol, but let's see what the kids got. Our roster obviously doesn't have too much space for development and pace... so we move pieces like TMann and Moussa, and pick up (to tie it all together)... Ben Simmons.

Is it though? I have to disagree... we are playing with a squad that is built around stars. Sorry if we were going for "development" you'd need "stars" like Brand and Maggette...

Don't get me wrong, I hate it here... especially when one of your stars rarely plays, and the other has started to turn over the rock like it is hot potatoes...

But there is a difference between a roster with ALL NBA talent and a roster with maybe ALL STAR talent.

I guess it's tough to say but Ballmer has shown that he's willing to open up the pocket book and knowing that, is Lue and Frank really a better HC/GM combo than what can be had right now on the open market?

That is a fair question... not sure. Was there signings or moves you were looking at that you think we missed out on? Or moves we did that you didn't like?

I am in agreement that I think they should be put on notice, they should be sweating out there for their job security. Perhaps Ballmer has given them too much credit and security that they are not hustling... or that their hands are truly tied.

I will be the first person to join you in the march that Lue is grossly over hyped, but at the same time... what coach would I go for?

I'd really have to look into it but one name that comes to mind is Terry Stotts. I saw him on what I think was the Golden State bench

In today's day and age, I take Ty Lue over Terry Stotts 9/10 times.

You need to be more of a "players coach" these days, and I really don't like it - but I have come to accept it.

I amend my statement... it is more like 9.8/10 times... And the 0.2 is reserved for when I am really pissed at him.

TLue is younger played in the NBA. He's also won NBA championships as a player and once as a coach. He's been on the biggest stages and dealt with some of the biggest stars.

Ty has got an impressive resume, and he has positioned himself well to the needs of a "modern" NBA team.

Probably so. I'm not as familiar with the GM names out there but it seems like this board is always disappointed with Frank's moves so you have to think someone is out there. Maybe hire from within?

Although courtesy of the Athletic, I will say that dumping your bad contracts, avoiding the luxury tax and somehow coming out ahead on draft picks is reason for giving Frank some kudos so there is that

The Athletic is now owned by the NY Times hence the NY Times email address. It's a pay per month site but is well worth it. I THINK you can read this one article for free before they start charging you but I'm not sure. But if you like overall NBA coverage, this is about the best place to go

This was a great move as a buy out. We just have to temper expectations. We aren't getting the early version of Simmons, a 15-16 PPG scorer, but his contribution via rebounds and assists will be a huge benefit off the bench. To boot, his height, 6'10 makes him an asset on the defensive end. I think he checks off a lot of boxes as to what we need. The Clippers made some low key moves that have made them better. As always, Kawhi is the wildcard this year. I can't wait to this this roster after ten games into the season together.
