Laver Cup 2021: It's Back.

What did everyone think? Through the first 2 days, Team Europe went 7-1, for an 11-1 points lead. 5 of the 8 matches went into deciding 3rd set 10 point match tiebreaks, and Team Europe won 4 of those. So the matches were close, but Team Europe kept winning the match tiebreaks. Team World had a lead in several of those match tiebreaks too, including a few 7-5 leads in 2 different matches. For one of them, Auger-Aliassime had a 7-5 lead, then his shoelace broke. So he replaced a single shoe, and only won one more point. So heading into Sunday, I knew there was a chance there could only be one match being played, since Team Europe only needed 1 more win. The ushers said that if that was the case, they would play an exhibition match afterwards, so the fans were guaranteed at least 2 matches. As for the match itself, Sunday's session started with doubles. Rublev / Zverev vs. Opelka and Shapovalov. It went into a match tiebreak, which Europe won. They then played an exhibition afterwards, as promised. Schwartzman / Auger-Aliassime vs. Medvedev / Ruud. Team World won that one. Getting to see 4 players, given the circumstances (only 2 of 4 possible matches) was good. Both matches were played competitively, with a lot of good points. I hadn't seen live tennis since March 2018, so it was good to see it in person. During the exhibition, Zverev took out his DSLR and started taking pics, showing them to Borg. Rublev also looked super chill, wearing a white Moscow shirt with an open jacket. He put his arms around Borg. Rod Laver also walked a foot in front of my seat. Getting to see him, and being in the same building as him,....

You should've reached out and patted Rod Laver, lol! That must've been really cool to see all the top players live, and the crowd sounded really excited. I just didn't see the World Team having much of a chance vs Team Europe. But glad to hear that at least they were competitive in doubles.

That was an awesome write-up- thanks for sharing your experience!

Lol.

The one thing I would have liked to see, was a doubles team of Isner and Opelka. That tall lineup might be pretty good, and at worst, fun to watch.

Did you end up going?

Nope didn't go but glad to hear you had a blast!
