Jokic's Draft Coverage.

When Denver's pick was in, ESPN played a Taco Bell Quesarito commercial.

They didn't show him being drafted live.

When they turned from commercial, Jay Bilas spent a lot of time talking how the 42nd pick, Nick Johnson, would fit in with James Harden.

Bill Simmons then spent time talking about 43rd pick Walter Taveras' wingspan, and whether he could open two car doors at the same time, and whether he could do it on a SUV.

Fran Frascilla then told a background story about Taveras, and how he was discovered.

Then Andy Katz and Jay Bilas talk about how explosive 44th pick Markele Brown is.

They spent 1 second talking about Jokic, that was just to say he had been drafted.

They didn't even show footage of Jokic, like they did Nick Johnson, Walter Taveras, or Markele Brown.

@Trueblood, do you have a mock draft from 2014?

The "experts" and scouts sure got things wrong there lol. Jokic is the 2021 NBA MVP- drafted 41st overall pick in the second round. Not sure when was the last time an NBA MVP was drafted in the second round.

Funny you ask. I was actually going to alert you that I'd be doing a new mock draft as soon as the lottery is determined but you beat me to it here.

The site that I did the mock for is no longer up and running. I really wish that I could get in touch with the site owner for the sole purpose of bringing it back and copying my mocks on to this site.

I will humbly admit that I didn't have Jokic in the first round and I didn't do 2nd rounds on those mocks. He was such a virtual unknown at the time that I didn't even know he existed. Based on how the league is turning towards athletic centers that don't score in the post, I probably wouldn't have had him high even if I did know he existed. He is truly a remarkable player that has gone above and beyond what anyone even remotely thought was possible

Thanks. Can you still get in touch with that site owner?

Yes, I look forward to your mocks. I also think it's a compliment that if you had someone in the 1st round, but a team drafts him in the 2nd, and then that player goes on to have a decent role, then we can say that you were ahead of the scouts and GMs on that person.

Theo Maledon was one such person from this past draft. He was decent on the Thunder, I don't think they played him simply because they are rebuilding, but because he was decent.

In general, I think it's fun to track a few 2nd rounders every year, so your mocks help get that excitement going.

It's also disappointing that they didn't even have a 20 second highlight clip about Jokic, but they had those for the next 3 players drafted after him.

Thanks.

Maybe Taco Bell was right.

"Two things you only dreamed would come together".

I guess the dream was Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic, with a splash of Mike Malone, and trainer Felipe Eichenberger.

@TrueBlood, where did you have Antetokounmpo in 2013?

At least ESPN's draft coverage had an 18 second highlight clip for him then, when compared to 0 for Jokic.

Go to 1:31:45.

Atlanta because I heard that Danny Ferry really wanted him. The Bucks took him with the pick just before Atlanta's and then the Hawks took Dennis Schroeder.
