Clippers Moving to Seattle?

Clippers Forum » Clipper Rumors

Close friend of the family works for a company that puts roofing material and installation for big huge arenas including the new Golden State arena that’s to open up next year. He told me about a bid for a large indoor arena going in Seattle, I asked him what teams are going there he says he didn’t know but they usually don’t build a huge arena and spend millions of dollars on speculation Could the clippers be moving?

Nope, they could not. They're currently building an arena in the South Bay. Besides you're talking about Key Arena, which already has teams there and Clippers are not one of the teams paying for it.

Now if you are talking of one more player move, I am with you.

I think there will be one more trade in 2018.

Moving to Seattle, no. Why would anybody live there?

Next new city for basketball will be Las Vegas!!!!!!

Would love the Clippers to move to Las Vegas!!

Then we are talking road trips!!

I'm talking about a new arena from the ground up .my friend is head and of bidding jobs (roofing and insulting) and his company who has the Chase arena contract and also the new As stadium contract , is telling me there will be a new indoor arena in Seattle !! Unless the clippers already broke ground in South Bay ,I wouldn't hold your breathe,!! Seattle ,,,,mark my words ( I have been a clipper fan since 85-86 season and the LA sports arena days ) I would hate to see them go ,but I think they will. 🙁🙁,,,, if you go online you will see what I'm talking about !! ,not the keys arena !!

This topic always pisses me the f*ck off!! Why start this bullsh*t thread in here?? Seattle will get an expansion team if anything. Clipps aren't going anywhere. LA is a NBA stronghold.. the league loves having two teams here.

The clippers arena in Inglewood has already been agreed upon. The city cannot backtrack on that, communities are trying to block it but the best thing they can do is delay the process. Currently, officials have been trying to fast track the process so the clippers, the rams and chargers, can get a home in Inglewood. If the clippers move, the rams and the chargers would have to move.

Here is an article about the fast track building of the arena.

So no. Put your mind at ease. No Seattle.

Small markets can never compete with big city markets, it’s as simple as that.

It's up to Ballmer. I know it needs to be voted on by the owners, needs to get approval blah blah blah, but if Ballmer wants Seattle, that's where the Clipps are going. I'm a huge proponent of the idea, hope they finally do it! Go to a place where THE WHOLE town actually supports you. Our setup here is not great. Take any Clipper player ever, go to Dodger game - get booed. Go to a Trojans game - get booed. Go to a Lakers game - get mugged, then get booed.

Ballmer doesn't want to move it to Seattle for business reasons. He can attract free agents in Los Angeles. He understands that its a destination city and for that reason he understands he could build a much greater team than he ever would in Seattle. Seattle just doesn't have the same allure as LA does, or at least in the eyes of NBA stars.

No way man! LA for life!

BTW as of 2016 there are only 700,000 people in the city of Seattle. Whereas LA had a 2016 population of 3.9mm people. Even if 50% of Seattle was Clippers fans, it takes under 10% of LA residents to match that. We are doing well in LA, just need to the team finally grow and develop some youngsters

we have to remember that fans are fickle. You will always have die-hard fans that will never switch allegiances, but they are actually the minority. The bulk of sales in attendance and....

-100% chance. Sorry! 😄. 100% Inglewood all the way. 😄

By the way, it takes a loooooong time to get approval for a new site. Any new area which is accepting bids would be well known about by now. In fact it requires a city council vote...YEARS before they start getting bids on contracts.

There is no arena up for approval. The only arena build is the existing improvement to Key Arena. That's what your friend was talking about. Clippers have nothing to do with that arena. It's being paid for by other teams.

This is a non-issue. Just more Summertime drumming up false drama.

Don't it rain like 95% of the time in Seattle. 100% sunshine in Los Angeles. My vote is Inglewood. 😄

I doubt the Clippers will move out of LA, and if they do, like Laboy said, it'll be Vegas... I will puke in my mouth and probably give up on basketball all together if that happens. I already had to deal with the Chargers moving out of SD and I hope they eventually start to get some support(Chargers look good and LA likes good teams).

i understand you , but in the corporate world the owners wouldn't ask for bids on the arenas roofing and sound insulation unless its a done deal , he advised me there will be a NBA tram and NHL team ( no names were mention !!! i guess we will see

NBA has to approve that, and so does Seattle city council. If he said there "will be" an NBA team, he's fibbing. I am telling you, he's confusing the redev of Key Arena, which is right now getting bids, with a new arena.

Lots of folks here think that the new arena in Inglewood is a done deal. The lawsuit by citizens of Inglewood is one thing, but the City is also being sued by the MSG, the owners of the Forum because they feel they have a Non-Compete agreement with the city prohibiting them from allowing another Arena to be built.

My cousin's dog's vet's sister's roommate's ex-husband in San Diego heard that somebody requested planning permission for a restaurant that has 7'6" doorways.

Guess we're gonna be the SD Clippers again.

I often talk to Inglewood mayor Butts via email. He said despite the lawsuit & some residents disapproval. Everything is pushing through. Sacramento helping it go faster. Clippers will make an announcement in the Fall on the new Arena. 😄

OK, there is one nasty thing that nobody seems to want to talk about. There is a reason why the Lakers didn't rebuild a new arena in Inglewood. Notice that they instead opted for a location right by the freeway, something that the Inglewood location doesn't offer. I really don't think Ballmer has ever gone to a concert at the Forum. The traffic is horrible. So horrible that when you exit the parking lot they won't even let you travel in the direction you want. If you are parked on the east side of the arena they make to travel east away from the freeway. I won't even go to concerts there anymore. No fun. I have also wondered why they are building a football stadium there. They will have 4 times as many cars as the Forum does for a concert. And heaven forbid the Football Stadium, the Clippers Arena, and the Forum all have an event at the same time. There will be mass suicide in the streets. The new moniker won't be Lob City, it will be Gridlock City. No thanks, I will watch on TV.

Seriously, dude... have you ever tried to drive West on Wilshire after a Clips game on a busy Sunday afternoon?

Can't be done... except with my patented and highly illegal U-turn maneuver on Olympic under the overpass.

Inglewood isn't going to make game day traffic any worse.

Ok, well if you don't like the Wilshire traffic then you are really going to hate Inglewood. However bad you think the Wilshire traffic is, take that and multiply it by 100 and that will be your traffic trying to drive around Inglewood before and after a game. Just go look at a map and it is easy to notice that Staples is right by a freeway. The Clippers new arena is not. For those of you who love that kind of nightmare.......Enjoy. As for me, I don't live in the city anymore. I live in a small beach community half way to San Francisco. So I guess I am just not use to that anymore. But I do have a 65" curved big screen TV with surround sound, and easy access to a Margarita. So when it's game time...................I'm good. After a game, I will already be snoozing while the fans who went to the game are still stuck Crenshaw Blvd sucking gas fumes and wondering why they made you drive east away from the freeway after exiting the Arena parking lot.

Actually I'm usually back in Brentwood about 20 minutes after I walk out of Staples most weeknights. Straight shot on the 10 to Bundy. I'm on my couch with a pint by the time Doc starts spouting his excuses.

It's getting TO Staples... that's the rub. Two hours from the westside to the parking lot, so I have to leave at 5pm if I want to get dinner before the game.

I could f*cking WALK to Inglewood in less time than that. Wink

I am not usually a subway/lightrail rider, but it's huge fun to go to the Clippers game on one. There are other fans in almost all the cars, and people chat about the team and the upcoming game. It's like a mini party on the subway before the game. And apparently the plan is for the new arena to offer light rail which is connected to the entire system. Just take that, avoid the parking fees and the traffic, and have more fun.

I think no more STs. I go straight Jefferson to Figueroa, one hour door to bar to seat in rush hour. No light rail. When LAL was in Inglewood, the 405 was backed up for a mile. Maybe I'll put my bike in the car and pedal to a restaurant

Also outside of the Raiders and Rams leaving in '95, which ended up coming back, let me see a pro team leave prosperous Los Angeles. This is the second biggest city in arguably the most powerful nation on Earth and growing into a behemoth for better or for worse. The Olympics are coming, the superbowl is coming, revitalization, money, etc. Teams are moving in here not moving out. yes Ballmer can afford to take the hit to move the team but lets see it happen first. Owning a pro team in a top five market in America really means something to these billionaires. Ballmer already has Seattle sewed up. The Clips are his key to LA business and social wise. I'll believe it when I see it.

LA will be making an immense amount of investment in LA's public transit system. It should make a difference and push people to start using public transit more. There is a reason NYC is one of the largest markets and densest cities in the world... public transit is a HUGE and underappreciated and underrated reason it is where it is. Been using the Metro more and more in LA... it is not the greatest, but it is OK. Definitely underutilized.

I am hoping the new wave of (young) fans that became Clipper fans in LA and have not switched over to being LA Laker fans push a wave of Clipper fans using public transit trend. Granted that it seems younger gen people seem to prefer ride sharing to transit, it remains a long shot.

But I encourage all to fill up their TAP cards and use Metro more! There will be new lines and connections and improvements coming online in the near future... get in on it!

As an LA Native I can say the public transportation from what I hear has drastically improved. When I was growing up I took public trans every day and it was probably the worse for any major City in America.

Always late, way over crowded, and always had a percentage of homeless and/or crazy people.

With all this new development it’s supposedly changing for the better.

Catching the redline to staples is the best way to go to the game in terms of convience, but I couldn’t bring my wife on the train because we were dressed up and a lot of weirdos would be on there.

Like I said hopefully this is changing.

Preach! The main issue with LA Metro was interconnectability. Getting from point A to point B often times meant a lot of line switching, and even catching a bus or taxi. But lines have been extending and the new regional connector helps bring a lot of these lines together. More connection point means a more efficient route, for a wider range of people.

Really glad to see it picking up, and glad to hear that Clipper fans are on the upswing with LA Metro!

If the Clippers move to Inglewood I'll consider moving back to Cali. Will be within walking distance to Rams/Chargers/Clippers Arenas.
