Clippers sign Willie Reed
Willie Reed is a great move. We thought we never get him a few weeks ago. ^^
Damn, that is great news about Willie Reed. Add Tony Allen and we're absolutely better than last year. Team is very balanced
Can Reed shoot Fts..And if so I wonder will doc have him in late in games..Just me but I feel we will Jordan at some point.
Great Signing! Team is looking balanced. Just hope Doc gives the youngins some PT. Especially Brice.
Let's just hope the coach don't screw this thing up.. With the Logo watchful eye on the front office Doc should be able to focus on coaching
Feast your eyes:
Nice move!
Seems kinda slow footed, but I like his jump hook. I can see him being an asset if Doc ever uses him off the bench.
Remember Cole couldn't get in for 20+ games, and Udoh never got in. Bass last year couldn't get minutes. Austin might have played more PF minutes than bass last season.
I think he will get enough minutes as the main backup center together with Harrel in the front court. (remember harrel played backup center last season in houston but he will be a better PF)
1 - Milos Teodosic, Patrick Beverley, Danilo Gallinari, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan
2 - Austin Rivers, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker, Montrezl Harrell, Willie Reed
3 - Jawun Evans, Sindarius Thornwell, Wesley Johnson, Brice Johnson, Jamil Wilson
Willie Reed sounds like a very good signing. Nice touch around the rim- not flashy but he makes the right plays.
Great signing. He's our only true backup center so Doc has to play him....right? Anyways, our bench is looking like truly one of the best in the NBA and Doc will be forced to play the young guys like Dekker and Harrell...right?
Great move. My only concern is Doc Rivers. Will he give a decent amount of minutes to Reed, Brice and Harrell or will he play Blake and DJ 40 minutes/game each?
I was betting the over ($500) after the Paul trade, now with the more recent move including this one, I'm doubling that bet. Another above average player added to the roster. Great value move. And the hits just keep coming.
Now if Doc fu*ks this up.....

Decker SHOULD backup Gallinari and Harrell SHOULD backup Blake. Anything else wouldn't be a wise move. Sigh.
And bass Should have played backup PF... instead it was old legs pierce...
Austin SHOULD NEVER play PF... but doc had him at PF guarding kevin love vs the Cavs.
There is not guarantees with doc
If anybody thinks that this is West creating this team, raise your hand. If you think
Doc did it please raise your Intelligence Quoitent to above room temperature
This
is the only bench we've had since the Bench Mob.
Where are the washed up vets who played one year too long.? Where are the "Stretch Fours" who don't belong in the NBA? Where are the overpaid players?
Wait and see - Which player will play out of position? Which player will not play in order to give Austin minutes? Where are the young players that will never play? If anybody has seen The Godfather or met my Administrator you will know what it means when the Boss gets close to an employee. He was Coach of the Year one year and was fired the next for starting 1-10. Yeah he won a title in Boston but look at the players he had. I could win a ring drunk. Arguably he hasn't always had the talent but he has not always been a winner. I hope hi is on a short leash or better a noose.
I mean when your picture is the logo for the NBA you probably have a lot of clout around the league lol.
Is there anyone who has been involved with the league longer than Jerry?
It's funny because we went from the absolute worse GM to the absolute best. And the difference is enormous.
I think we will actually compete this year
Now if Doc fu*ks this up.....

You'll definitely profit from that. I'm mad I didn't start researching bets after CP news broke. I knew Ballmer would want to stay relevant instead of rebuild.

Our gm (Dave Wohl) hasn't changed for 4 years. Our president of basketball operations (Doc) is still the same, too. All that is changed is we added a new consultant. Everything else is the same as always.
I know that bro. In terms of positions on paper everyone is the same.
But West is behind these moves and building this current roster. Even though he is just a consultant on paper, he is acting as GM with these moves.
I'm sure ballmer ain't paying this guy millions to waste his breathe. What West says most likely goes.

Wow, you end with a noose reference, ouch.

I suspect Blake will fill the role of our "stretch big" this year. Gallinari and Dekker both played the majority of their minutes at the 4 last year as well and can both shoot.
I suspect Lou Williams will be the one to lose minutes to Austin (still expect Lou to be traded by deadline). With Milos, Beverly, and Evans, there's almost no reason for Austin to get minutes at PG, and with Sam Dekker and Gallinari, there shouldn't be a reason for him to get minutes at SF, so almost all of Austin's minutes will have to come at SG.

The CP3 trade was sure to include many young guys like Harrel, Dekker, and the 1st round pick. In all my time watching the Clippers, I don't think Doc ever asked for a 1st rounder, much less young guys to develop like Dekker. Rather his focus was vets, vets, vets.
The pick we acquired from that package was flipped along with other assets to acquire Danilo Gallinari, who is neither a Rivers, washed up, or a former Celtic. Let's not forget that Doc's pattern has been to use draft pick to get teams to acquire players that fell from his favor, like Dudley, Stephenson. He has never used a first rounder to acquire a decent player.
Patrick Beverley was part of that package as well, and Doc has never gone out for a defensive specialist like this. I think his love affair for a while was stretch fours like Jamison, Hawes, and Turkoglu.
The minimum, or near minimum contracts, were not given to former Lakers. Doc had a nasty habit of scouting the Lakers and acquiring their trash with the likes of Antwon Jamison, Wesley Johnson, Brandon Bass, and others. Most of the small contracts seem to be given to guys that are universally acknowledged as "decent."
Foreign talent was actually considered, and the Clippers signed Teodosic, and I may be wrong but I don't think Doc ever looked overseas for players.
The changes are just too drastic to attribute to Doc, and this is especially evident when you look at what he has done as President of B.O. over his time. This off season has been remarkable, and in my opinion you are correct in giving West more credit for this off season.
PG: Milos Teodosic, Lou Williams, Juwan Evans
SG: Patrick Beverly, Austin Rivers, Sindarius Thornwell, [DeAndre Liggins - likely will be release]
SF: Danilo Gallinari, Sam Dekker, Wesley Johnson, [Jamil Wilson - 2-way contract]
PF: Blake Griffin, Montrezl Harrell, Brice Johnson [Isaiah Hicks - 2-way contract]
C: DeAndre Jordan, Willie Reed
Very surprised the Clippers were able to get him this cheap. Doc/Frank had been linked to Reed in the past when he was being scouted out of the D-League. Dewayne Dedmon got $7 million/year, so this is quite surprising. Reed should be able to work himself into a better contract next season, but I thought he had already done that his past two seasons with Miami.

Good read and I agree wholeheartedly.. this entire off season was totally Jerry West 100%. If it was just Doc all he would've done was try to bring everybody back, go after Rudy Gay, and sign some minimum vets to fill out the roster.
And we will be looking for a new coach to coach all this talent next year.. can't wait to see Montrell and Reed on the court together..
Still not sure why Reed took our offer, could have done much better. Is the cap projected to go up next off-season? Doc must've sold him on Clips being front court-centric from now, earn him a big payday next July.

I'm just as surprised as many of you that Reed took our offer. I wonder if that has something to do with the current state of the Heat than it does the Clippers. Ever since LeBron left South Beach, that franchise has been in comatose state that even Wade wanted out. Regardless, this is a very solid signing. Perfect backup for DeAndre. This is a very nice roster we've put together. No more excuses Doc. It is truly put up or shut up time for Glenn.
Pretty sure he accepted the offer because there weren't any offers. Market is drying out for quality bigs. He actually opted out out of a better contract with Miami because he thought he could would get a better contract. I think he still had teams to choose from and he chose the Clippers. Side note- does anyone else think that Liggins can actually be useful? He played some really good defense on KD during the Christmas game and was solid for Cleveland. Don't see why he wouldn't be useful in limited minutes.
Even Nerlens Noel still have no team and still negotiating with Dallas. And believe Speights too.
Our team will be a scrappy bunch,I see us in the second round of the playoffs. Maybe further if Milos can play...
Apparently Willie Reed is suing the agency that represented him, one that is now under FBI investigation, for advising him to turn down a 3 year $15 million deal from the Heat. Reed had to then settle for the minimum with the Clippers.
That's a shame. Hope to hell Willie gets as much compensation as possible. His value is at least worth the $15 mil deal. The Clippers lucked out. Hopefully he re-ups with the Clips for around that number or a little more next season.
The fans are going to enjoy watching him play. Best backup C we've had in a loooong time.
He could turn into our starting C IF..........![]()
