Chris Paul Sprained Left Thumb Injury News/Updates

Clippers Forum » Clippers News & General Discussions

Chris Paul was injured by a wild Russell Westbrook play in the second quarter in the 1/16/2017 game vs Oklahoma City. CP3 suffered a sprained left thumb as a result and could not return to the game. Please post updates and discuss this particular injury suffered by CP here.

I just think both BG and CP3 are injury prone or their bodies tend to frequently gravitate towards injury. Similar to AD of the Pelicans. I don't think CP3 has played a full season of games since a rookie, I could be wrong. Anyways, I hope it's nothing serious.

X-Rays were negative- CP will get an MRI tomorrow.

He played all 82 2014-2015 but missed 2 games in the playoffs vs the Rockets (we won 1 and lost the other). He's definitely injury prone despite being as tough as they come.

Once again, I'm happy that this injury is occurring at this point in the season because we still have plenty of time for him to heal and recover, and every game he doesn't play is another game he can't get injured as we move closer to the playoffs. My hope is that CP3 takes some time to heal up, Blake comes back and asserts himself as the leader for a few games, then we get them both back in top shape by the time the playoffs start.

^ That would be the best case scenario. It really sucks having both CP3 and Blake out again at the same time.

The guys did really well in his absence in the second half. Let's hope they can keep it up. I know it's Minnesota up next, and then the schedule is pretty soft until the end of the month when we play the Dubs twice in a week. Hoping they are both back on the Court by then.

Not another injury. How ready is Blake?................... we certainly don't want him rushed back at all but both out is too much.

Wow. That's just great. It's almost as if the Clippers aren't allowed to have nice things. Blake better heal up and ball out, otherwise this team is seriously screwed.

No wonder CP was extremely upset as he walked to the locker room. Same reaction when he broke his finger in the last playoffs. Clippers just cannot catch a non-injury season to the two superstars. At least he'll be well-rested for the playoffs.

Wow ,this is a turning point of this team ,time to make a true statement as an owner !! Let put a package together and go get a point guard that not made of glass and while your at it a power forward to !!

I rather have Blake take it easy and come back after the all star. No need to rush it and have a relapse. My worries is now with the bench. Felton plays well but he is a veteran and how long can he play at that intensity he displays every night? Jamal is in brick city ever since he started this year so can't count on him either. Hoping for the best and everyone healthy come playoffs.

This is really so damn disappointing. Clippers will have a hard time hanging onto the 4the seed unless Blake balls out when he comes back.

Don't panic. We'll be fine. All of a sudden Felton will be an all star and next year he will be too expensive as will be Mo and Bass. Smash aka Austin will average 15 ppg as will Mo'. BG is absolutely capable of running the team. By PO's everybody will have stepped up and this team will be a wrecking crew IF ONLY we defend. If this team plays at it best I fear Klay Thompson and Draymond Green Popavich and lastly Leonard. Nothing else. This injury could take us to the WCFs.

Nail in the coffin

Six or Seven seed is now necessary.

We don't want the four or five, because we would play Golden State in the second round (assuming we can get through the first round). The season has come down to just the right amount of tanking and hoping to be well and catch fire in the playoffs.

Thanks for Raymond Felton. He's a starter quality (on some teams) PG when in shape and he's in shape.

Repped (+1)

.....and the curse lives on

I'm beginning to believe this Clippers Curse thing is for real.

In terms of longevity, freak accident injuries are better than durability type injuries, certainly, but they obviously still suck. Paul's last two major injuries have been finger getting stuck in a jersey and fighting over a screen while Westbrook is trying to flop into FT attempts. Those are injuries that can only be prevented by not playing, so it's not indicative of "injury prone" in the same sense as having constant ankle, knee (joint) or muscle injuries, but it's certainly annoying.

OUCH. I do wonder if there is anything that he can wear that can protect his hand better but yet preserve the feel. It's too bad.

At least, hopefully everyone will be back and ready for the playoffs.

I didn't realize it was his left hand, thought it was the right hand so that's sort of a relief. Maybe, some protective gloves he can wear like weightlifters?

Damn! Just as things start to look more rosy in the garden, this happens. Really we do have incredibly bad luck with injuries.

So, 6-8 weeks. A long time, even though the schedule is soft for the next week and there's the ASB to come. 4th Seed was looking like a lock, now it's going to be a real grind to avoid 7 and 8. Hoping Felton, JJ, Austin and Jamal can rise to the occasion.

Incidentally, just when is BG32 due back? Any whispers? He seems to have been out since forever.....

I guess trying to find a bright side more minutes for the supporting cast to gel and get there game better for the playoffs. We know what cp3 will do in the PO of healthy, and what Blake will do if healthy. I'd like to see Dj continue to step his game up like he has the last few games.

This could be a blessing in disguise come playoff time.

I'm surprised none of the fans have gotten on your case about this. Such talk is blasphemy on CNS. However, this may be a smart idea. I remember a few years ago the Grizzlies were scheduled to be like a higher seed, but they tanked one of their last games so that they could face the Spurs in the opening round...they even eliminated the Spurs. 4th seed will get us nothing except home court against a team like the Grizzlies-which would not be desirable. But as you said, tanking in order to face the Spurs is the smart thing to do..except Doc isn't a smart man. Luckily, these injuries may indeed cause us to drop in those standings just enough to put us in that position, so these injuries may be fortuitous.

7th seed

1st round vs San Antonio-definitely a Clippers win

2nd round vs Houston-we have a fighting chance

WCF vs GSW-we will lose but still get farther than our franchise has ever been

otherwise

4th seed

1st round versus Grizzlies/Utah-can beat Utah, too dangerous to face Grizzlies

2nd round versus GSW-a certain sweep for the GSW-game over for the Clippers

We get Blake back soon, and like SamMays said, Ray Felton is starter quality on a lot of teams. He's a great fit for our team and has been balling. He'll do just fine in CP3's absence, and CP3 should be back before the start of the playoffs. We'll be just fine.

Seeding means a lot come playoff time. Six or seven would be better for us that four or five, provided we come into the playoffs healthy.

We are not getting by Golden State unless we catch them beat up and that is more likely in the third round than in the second. I would suggest that this year 8th is the worst seed, followed by 5th and then 4th. We're not getting the 2 or 3.

While no homecourt, the seeding might actually become better. The Clippers goal was to get 2nd or 3rd for the best matchups. There's no need to face GS earlier than you need to. We saw it with SA, tough grueling series' get this team worn out, not better for the next series.

4th wouldn't be that bad in the first round because Utah looks like they are moving away from Memphis and OKC, and Utah isn't bad for the Clippers, but it means a second round matchup vs GS and as much as the overconfident people like to get excited, GS is #1 in the league in Ortg and Drtg right now for a reason, despite their flaws.

Going down to 6th or 7th will mean first and second round matchups vs SA and Houston and that is actually a better path to the WCF. Of course the goal isn't just WCF, but at least getting there, then who knows what could happen. Just like it happens to the Clippers, injuries can happen to other teams too, etc, so who knows.

Yeah definitely whatever helps- as long as it helps prevent at least the severity of a hand injury. If glove(s) would have been a strain instead of a tear, that would have been big. Obviously with a point guard who handles the ball with both hands so much, the feel would be very important, so it may be out of the question in the first place. But with technology these days, maybe there is something out there he can use without sacrificing the feel.

Griffin for Butler..

lets get it done..

lets make the clippers great again! (2017 nba champions)

I actually wouldn't mind trading for Carmelo and change at this point.

Great. I'm going to see the Clippers play in Denver on Saturday. Hopefully Austin can lead them to victory.

This is a huge loss... its not that we do not have players to step up... We do. But there is no one in the league as effective as CP3. As some artist said... he's "irreplaceable".

agree with the both of you... Not sure we "definitely" win vs Spurs... and I love my chances vs HOU... but for the general idea, I agree.

SamMays and PageC4 I only agree because even with Blake, I don't think he can lift us above HOU... unless KG really gets to him Smile

Awesome news that CP has been medically cleared to play! I wonder if Doc will put him back in the lineup tomorrow against the Dubs.

I was wondering if he would come back for this game!

even if he is inserted, it would be best to limit those minutes. Bad game for him to come back. To be honest he shouldn't even play this game..too much emotion. I criticize Paul a lot, but the man will typically play hard against GSW

It's a good point, is it wise to play him at all?

I was told the Clippers are having a hard time making a trade because they have no draft picks to work with. But note that they found Memphis at the last minute last year. We'll see!

Or other assets/players that teams want.

What we "found" with Memphis is something we don't want to repeat, lol.

Right. Memphis found a sucker (us)

Trade was so damn unnecessary and to add a pick for a damn rental. Shows the arrogance of Doc.

ClipperPostman wrote:

And I'm glad we didn't repeat that by trading for Chandler. Whew!!

CP for PG, bring him home where he should have been from the start! Let's get this going, Austin and Felton can handle the point and George can handle SG with mr congo, griffin and dj we get long! No more Reddick defensive liability. Reddick improves bench. Spread this and let's get it going!
