Clippers vs. Thunder Opening Night Game Thread 2014-10-30

Clippers Forum » Clippers Game Day

The Los Angeles Clippers season opener on the 30th against Oklahoma City is nearly here. Without Kevin Durant, the Thunder is still a dangerous team that the Clippers need to be wary of. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul must not get into early foul trouble, and the entire team must box out to prevent too many second chance points by OKC. Forcing many turnovers and hitting 3's at 40% or higher would certainly help the cause as well.

Show them no mercy

Btw david game is on the 30th not 31st

^^Thanks Jarca- fixed!

McGary - Out Durant - Out Morrow - Out We should come out angry and ready to prove something to the ENTIRE NBA at the expense of OKC on Opening Night. I expect to see a lot of....

I hope the Clippers come out with a vengeance and dominate this game for a win.

Clippers will probably win this one. We'll soften them up in Portland, and then you all can take care of them in LA the next day. Smile

Westbrook triple-double watch... points, rebounds, turnovers.

Jackson, McGary, Lamb, and Perkins are either hurt or out as well. It would be disturbing and truly sad to even come close to losing this game.

Nerves already,Thur should be hel*

Has Doc posted the starting lineup yet? I hope CDR starts. He is a pesky flea who is plays defense like a guy who can only play defense. I like that. If he never takes a shot other than a put-back that is fine with me.

I want BG to score 30 or more points and put the League on notice that he has arrived. Arrived!!! He's doing all this TV so he better show the world that he is not a stand-up comedian (we already have Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld and Jack Black for that) but a bonafide MVP candidate.

Time to win a title. L.A. and me haven't had one in quite a awhile!!!!!

GO CLIPPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW Westbrook is over rated. He ain't so tough! (Paraphrase Rocky). So is Durant. Bunch of NBA/referee hype. Clips -- prove me right!

I will go nuts if this turns into refball and we get jobbed again!!! If the NBA can't give us fair reffing with Sterling gone, then I give up.

Ah, Barnes is the starting SF (Doc said so some days back). Westbrook could be overrated, Durant is surly not.

We were ranked in the top 2 in getting to the FT line last year. Making them is our problem.

I would have gone out and poured bleach all over myself after that,I feel for you

Free throw shooting is a problem. We have CP, Jamal and JJ who can hit a clutch FT and that's it. DJ will never break 50%. If Blake hits 75% it's heaven but he's streaky. Who else is 80%?.

Durant is a freak of nature. He's that good. Westbrook may try to take up the slack and play out of control but expect a steady diet of him going to the rack and he can torch CP. Look for it.. This will not be an easy game unless the defense picks up. The basketball gods are smiling however because KD would carve Matt like a Xmas goose.

Actually DJ needs to go back a few years and shoot FT's like he did in 2011/12 when he shot 53%, lol.

Jared Cunningham is an 83% FT shooter in his short career. And yes, FT shooting was a problem for us last year.

^

Hawes has been hitting 78% for the last 2 seasons.

Will there be a promotional give away for this game?

With Durant out and all their other injurys and the second night of a B2B for them, surely this is going to be a win for the Clips. Unless we can't flip the switch from preseason that is.

Really excited for tomorrow.

So are we winning this or what?

Find out tomorrow around 10pm.

I'm watching them now. ... there defense looks bad and on offense it's all Westbrook using his speed either getting to the basket or setting up an elbow shot for ibaka. I think that blakes new shot is going to give ibaka some problems. If we can slow Westbrook down without putting him on the line. .. we got this!

We ain't stopping Westbricks, too big for CP. Maybe we can experiment jared on him

I was thinking the same thing, maybe even throw a double team at him every now and then. Force the rest of them to beat us. Westbrook 26 points 12 of them from the line. At the half

Westbrook has 26 in the first half. Don't know how your stop that. Okc would be killing Portland if it wasn't for Kaman and Lopez grabbing all those offensive rebounds.

Kaman has 1 offensive rebound, Lopez has 7.

Portland shooting 38% is another reason why OKC is leading at the half.

8 is a lot, but I saw Kaman grab at least 3. Shrugs..

They can't hit a 3 to save their life. Which is the problem with teams who rely solely on 3pt shooting.

Portland will win the game unless Westbrook can score 60.

Sometimes you think you see things that aren't really there. Thank god for stats. Wink

This will be a tough game. OKC doesn't look like they missed a beat without Durant, and Westbrook has looked like the best point guard in the league since the playoffs last year.

Portland's going to win and they will miss their best player...a lot.

Okc looks terrible.... Westbrook has over half their points. Hence why they are going to lose.

Portland doesn't look to good either.

Only down by 2. I'm feeling good about our chances right now.

I think the Clips win this one. Westbrook won't go off like this every night, and if the other players aren't hitting shots, then their opponents should be able to pull out wins.

Which is why this isn't a blow out. Lillard and Matthews playing like crap. Batum trying to turn it on finally.

LMA is playing like himself. If he wasn't so soft he could probably avg at least 6 more ft's per game

He looks like the best shooting guard in the league. He isn't a point guard.

Bingo, we have a winner. When Scotty Brooks ever snaps out of it and starts Reggie at the pg when he returns they'll be a real force especially when their no.1 player gets back.

I think we should be fine as long as Farmar doesn't play much(as in not at all.)The thought of him trying to defend Westbrook is an absolute nightmare.

I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT TONIGHT.

I think we should practice doubling Westbrook and getting the ball out of his hands. Still I think you have abetter chance to win if he is playing 1 on 5! Who Knows. I am just ready

We may not be able to stop WB, but one player doing all the scoring can be a losing formula so it may not be a problem. Two guys you can't stop is a different matter, but KD is out Smile

Leak outs play a role, and Rivers said the Clippers want to run so badly the guards will take off when they don’t have the ball yet, but Rivers thinks the primary reason for the problem is opponents’ dribble penetration. Rivers said that forces the Clippers’ bigs to come out and help, leaving forwards and centers available for easy buckets, put-backs and rebounds.

“Rebounding’s not purely athleticism,” Griffin said. “It’s about really going and getting it. DJ does a great job. I need to do a better job of, especially when I’m out on the perimeter guarding a stretch four or something like that, of coming back in and pursuing the ball and not leaking out. That’s something I’ve been working on.”

We do this, we win. Simple.

Lets get this party started right, Bitches! lol

/can't wait!

The Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Los Angeles Clippers tonight for the first time since a hard-fought second round playoff series resulted in the Thunder advancing to the conference finals after winning the series 4-2. This time, however, there will be one notable absentee.

When quizzed about how he planned to replace the production of his MVP, Oklahoma City head coach Scott Brooks had this to say...

"Well, obviously, Tony Brothers is a huge part of our success and you're not going to be able to replace that kind of contribution easily, but Marc Davis is as professional and dedicated as they come and he's determined to help us win. He actually has a great record against the Clippers, so I think he'll put on quite a show and help Russ out in any way he can."

He added... "Oh, you mean Durant? ...yeah, we'll miss him too."

Yes, Clipper nation. Our old friend Marc Davis is crew chief for tonight's game.

Repped (+1)

Westbrook now feels he has to carry the load. And he can't do it. OKC will really struggle until Durant comes back.

Who's gonna be at staples tonight?

We'll be there in sect 115

Fergie will be there singing the national anthem. Smile
