Is it true that an Orange County politician by the name of Karina Onofre is trying to mover the LA Clippers south and make them an Orange County team?

That will NEVER happen. ![]()
The Clippers have a contract with staples center until the 2022-2023 season or something. That would be very hard to get out of and leaving the second largest market in the US would be the worst decision. Our team value would decrease as soon as it moves and whoever buys the team would not want their billion dollar investment to move to the OC
Is it true? Yes.
Does she have a billion dollars? No.
Is she merely a candidate for state assembly touting populist ideas to win votes in her district? Yes.
Will this ever happen? No.

I read on her Facebook page that she was getting support from a Newport Beach politician. Anything Newport Beach means bottomless pockets. I hope your second thought is right because she seemed to come up with this right after the Sterling story came out.
All the people that wants to buy the clips like Magic, Oprah & etc gave no desire to move LAC anywhere. LA for life!!!
I just hope that she isn't pulling sneaky behind the public's back.
Well, she's telling her local newspaper something different...

First, the new Clippers owner would have to WANT to leave L.A. which is a stupid move because the city's name is among those most globally recognized in an era of global expansion for the NBA. Next, he or she would have to pony up a billion dollars for the franchise, then probably another couple of hundred million towards the cost of the new arena. Then he would have to settle a lawsuit for millions more with the owners of Staples for breaking the Clippers' lease.
This woman is a nobody. She doesn't even hold public office... she is a CANDIDATE. She is making promises to voters that she will never be able to keep, like lowering taxes while increasing spending on their pet causes.
You pushing this story so hard never having posted anything before today makes me think you have an agenda of your own.
Until you come back with something more concrete than what some chick said, you're on troll watch.
If I post on FB that I am a billionaire, will I be one too?

I'm so sorry. I have no agenda other than I was told things and thought the best way to get to the bottom of it was to join a forum where members would most likely know something about it. Thanks for your help.
Did you catch the most important part, she will be at the game. A legend in her own mind.
This team is so important to all of us - seeing people using it to advance their own agendas is making me really sad
Many of us are not even allowed in the cities she represents, wrong area code or however you want to look at it,talk about jumping from the frying pan (DTS) to the fire (this lady)
In a related announcement, I will be watching the game from my living room where I am forming a blue-ribbon committee of myself, my wife and the cat to further explore options of bringing the Clippers to Brentwood.
I too hold no public office, but I'm pretty sure my neighbors and local small businesses would be stoked about all the hypothetical money it would bring to our community.
Now I just have to convince Adam Silver plus Magic, Oprah, Ellison, Floyd "money" Mayweather, Malcolm-in-the-middle or whoever else may buy the team that it's a good idea.
I'm sure they won't laugh in my face at all.

wow Did anyone else Laugh at this?
This is why politicians are held in such low esteem. They are kinda like Kim Kardashian -- anything to get noticed.

I would love for the clippers to move since I am in OC and could get season tickets again!
Just ran across this, don't know with the eventual new ownership if this would ever happen but..........
First the Angels. Then the Clippers. Is the Great Park the great destination for rumored professional sports moves? Karina Onofre, a candidate for the 74th Assembly district, wants to bring those “beleaguered Clippers” that she thinks are an “up-and-coming franchise and have the potential to advance far in the NBA playoffs” to Orange County. i think someone already posted this a while back, and this would be a dumb move. no need for a move to Anaheim.
My bad, didn't realize someone had posted it already.
I agree dumb move, just with all the stank DTS has put on the team, the league, etc.......it certainly wouldn't shock me a new owner would want his own arena.
Supposedly I heard its in the clause that Silver is making it so that the Clippers remain in Los Angeles. So hopefully nothing to worry about
Any new owners have no desire to move the LAC. a 0% chance.
We already have the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim,we don't need the Los Angeles Clippers of Orange County.
As a Ducks fan, I wish the Clippers would move to the Honda Center and establish their own history over there (Banners, retired jerseys, etc..). I mean, they did sell out every game when they used to play there in the 90's.
No one is moving from downtown to anaheim. It's just not the same. It doesn't matter that we share an arena it makes our rivalry with
Them unique.
Come on guys, if Ballmer does not want to move Clippers to Seattle, why should he be interested in Anaheim? I would love for Clips to be the Anaheim Clippers ( the OC team), but he would be pay the team 3x more to be a small market team. No thanks.
jesus... who brought this garbage thread back to life??? No one else post in this please. Its a dead topic
