Clippers Active in Trade talks

I cant post links yet, but theres a article on Hoopsworld, titled "NBA AM: No Deals Until Melo Situation Resolved

Here's the part about the Clippers:

The L.A. Clippers would like to add a veteran small forward and are active in talks. The Clippers are not willing to give up the farm, but they'd love to get involved in a deal and have eyes for Detroit's Tayshaun Prince and Memphis' O.J. Mayo.

I'm not sure who we are talking about getting rid of, but I would like either of these players. I think Mayo could be had for cheap.

I'm all in both Kaman is the trade chip either way I can see him sitting past the deadline if we lean toward Memphis and could come back early for Detriot.

The front office seemed cold on Mayo last I heard, and Prince doesn't strike me as the Big 3 piece that the organization is looking for. Seems like Olshey and co have their hearts set on Melo, Granger, or Igoudala, but I don't picture any of those teams trading with us or before the deadline. The Clips would like to get max value for Kaman, and his injury all but guarantees he wont be traded until the offseason pending CBA outcome. Since we're not in playoff push mode, no sense in rushing to make a trade and get less for Kaman.

icecoldclipper......I have absolutely no idea what you just said. You need a do over. Anyway, that article referenced above didn't say how active we are, isn't specific about anything, and is just speculation about who we might make an offer for. It regurgitates only a small part of the rumors swirling around the last couple of weeks about who the likely suitors might be for the Clips. As for me, I can't see them making a move for Tayshaun because he is just to old. His best days are behind him. Unless of course there just are not any better offers out there and they really want to get rid of Kaman. But if good offers do not come forth, the Clips can simply wait until next summer. It's not as if we are going to the playoffs this year. It is all about building for next year.

Said I was all in on both. There were two potential deals the OP mentioned for Mayo and one for Prince I would do both. That is going all in on both. The OP asked "who are we talking about getting rid of" I answered Chris Kaman because he is the trade chip either way because Chirs Kaman has been made available for upgrades.

Chris Kaman would like to stay in LA for his wifes job and his business ventures from reports. If the team decides to give him notice of the trade I would suggest he would sit and stay out past the deadline if he believes he is going to be traded to Memphis but he may not have an issue if traded to Detroit because it is his hometown. lol

has anyone seen deandre play lately against the bottom-feeders? he's been near invisible, like literally. still no offensive game and his defense - other than his 3 game block streak, he's been borderline fouling out every game.

he's had more than an opportunity this year and i have yet to see him earn that starters spot. coming off the bench, thats a different story.

this team needs depth more than anything else!

better for us. his game isn't consistent yet so we can re-sign him at a cheaper price and then he can grow into his full potential. i wonder if people still think he's worth around 8-10 mil a year...

project players tend to pan out by their 3rd year. its deandre's 3rd year and he's pretty much the same player he's been, just more minutes and more experience. a slightly higher IQ.

well he only stayed in college for one year even though he was too immature for the draft. i think it'll take him a bit longer than the usual three years. the potential is there so i doubt clippers are gonna give up on him after this season and let him walk.

The hopes of making the playoffs are over. Might as well not make any major trades and hold on to the pieces until the off season. Let kaman come back hopefully finish the year strong to raise up his value.

Is that not by itself improvement and how is he the same player if he has improved his stat line as well with his minutes. 3rd year bigs tend to learn the game by the 3rd year it's a huge difference then when you use the third year argument with any other position. I'll add better work ethic (yes with the help of Blake), stronger demeanor, and all the while handling the center role by and being backed by Diogu it takes time to learn the role as a NBA starter he has done great at home he has to learn the road as a starter something Blake Griffin has to learn as well.

Love putting Jordan on blast against the bottom feeders lol so it was DJ who let Bobbie Gibson open for 3's in crunch time, or let Jamison go for 35 while letting switching onto Hickson. Or the Raptors who destroyed every big we put on the floor that was only DJ folding against bottom feeders.lol

DJ needs to go to one of those big men camps in the off season. He has a similar game to Jevale Mcgee.

OK Mayo is a shooting guard not a SF. I dont see any point of getting him.

I rather use our cap money and get Shane Battier this off season. We have enough offense with Blake, BD and Gordon. We just need a team guy, who plays D, is a leader and hits the open three. That is Battier. He would be the perfect glue guy on this team.

It's amazing how highly regarded he is around the league. If we tested his trade value, we could get some nice pieces in return.

Deandre has made a tremendous leap, from not very useful to one of the top backup centers in the league... He's just not a starter quality, at least not yet, but good for 15-20 minutes a game... That's not bad...

He still might become a starter quality player, but I really want to see how this team does over the last 20 games or so with Kaman and Gordon playing along with Baron and Griffin...

Deandre has been horrible and a non-factor of late. He flashed some huge upside, as did Bledsoe earlier in the year. Both are keepers, but Clippers better be careful in what they offer DeAndre in his contract.

I would love to see OJ Mayo and Marc Gasol come to the Clips in a package. Both Gordon and Mayo can run PG ,throw in Foye too. Not sure if Blake's manlove for DeAndre keeps Clips from trading DJ.

It does seem likely the Clippers will make a trade before the deadline.

Same horrible non factor that Blake and the rest of the team has been on this road trip. Bledsoe and AFA have been inconsistent the entire season but that was more suspected.

I'm very happy with how DJ has grown over the last few months. If he continue's to work hard he'll definitely be a justifiable starter. As far as trades go, I think it's pointless to trade Kaman, Aminu, picks etc. unless somehow a blockbuster falls in our laps(which probably won't happen). EG being out has killed our team momentum. Every year it's always injuries that kill us. Look at this season alone. Eg earlier this year and still out now, Kaman basically all year, Bd first part of the year etc. etc. Maybe we should see if we can trade the training staff.

I completely agree. The training staff should be fired. With exception of Portland I cant think of any other team in the past two years that has dealt with the amount of injuries and total games missed my starters that we have.

where did you hear this? that would be great. if hakeem can give dwight the confidence to shoot jumpers, then he can probably help DJ with his FT percentage along with his post moves LOL.

Where did you read that Jordan is going to workout with the Dream? I rather Blake workout with him

I disagree WE DO NOT have enough offense with JUST BLAKE. His offensive game is NOT developed enough YET to handle double and triple teams. Once he hits a 15 to 20 ft jumpshot with consistency then yes. But even then its very tough to score on double and triple teams WHICH he is seeing every night now! Not only that, but on the road the double/triple teams are very aggressive AND as we all know WE dont get the calls by the refs!!

I think MAYO would be and excenllent addition. That way when BLAKE gets doubled teamed he have another threat to score! Gomes,cook,diogu, and the turnover twins aminu and bledsoe jst dnt cut it!! How is it possible tha blake draws so much attention and no one can either score or get to tge foul line??? MAYO is excellent shooting the 3 and in the perimeter plus he can get to the line!!! which is very important during close games and on the road.

Battier is jst a spot up shooter, hes older in age AND hes more of a half court set player! Its obvious that VDN wants to run, our clipper team is a Run n gun type team! Or atleast thats when we are at our best! Battier would NOT compliment our style of play as much as MAYO would!!

Prince is obviously better than gomes! hes better defender, hes 6'10......LONG not flat flooted like cook and gomes! He has a great post game decent perimeter shot and he makes FREE THROWS!!! And most important, ge has a ring and ALOT of playoff experience which will come in handy!! Even bd and Kaman combined sont have the playoff experience PRINCE has.

Trade for MAYO and PRINCE NOW!!

guys, i think mayo would fit in amazingly with this team. remember how vinny likes to use that 3 guard rotation? bd, ej, and foye? ( it works great for us, btw). well imagine that 3 guard rotation as bd, ej, and mayo with foye and e bled coming off of the bench

It's actually 5 or 6 years, when they come into the league as a 19 year old.

DJ would be a senior in College right now. He's got a few more years of development left in him.

Remember DJ played like half a year in college due to being suspended and eventually kicked off the team, so he barely had any collegiate experience. And the fact that he played behind Randolph, Kaman, Camby etc. in front of him, didn't help him get on the court to help further along his game. To counter what I just said, all 3 of those guys are terrific big men to learn from. Kaman can do it on both ends, Camby is a defensive genius who added a nice jumper to his resume and he can pass well, and Randolph is great at rebounding and scoring. DJ was said to be a 3-4 year project. Starting this year he's getting like 8 points, 8 boards and nearly 2 blocks a game. DJ will always be a Tyson Chandler / Emeka type player his entire career, a 10/10/1-2 block player. And that is just the kind of player we need. Detroit made it to the ECF what 5 years in a row with Ben Wallace who has 0 offensive game at all. And a lot of his steals were created by other players knocking the ball loose, so don't think that Ben is a pro ball thief. DJ is worth 3-5 mill, upwards to 4-7 mill ( if we trade Kaman and he turns on the jets the rest of the way ). If Kaman is traded, don't think we won't actively pursue Marc Gasol or draft another C. Diogu isn't bad, but he's well past his potential. As for trading Kaman, him coming back tonight means that trade talks just opened up for us again. Expect Philly to be a team we try to work a deal with to try to trade for Igoudala. This isn't a pipe dream, Philly actively wants him out of....

Kaman is getting traded. What is the only reason why a team plays an injured player sparse minutes right before the all-star break when he can get more rest and return after? yes, to showcase him for a trade.

I'm remember hearing this also. I think it was Milph taking in game when D.H. was in town with the Magic. It has been some time ago.

But we were getting beat by guards on this road trip. Tonight, Darko Milicic looked like an All-Star. Bosh, Howard, and a legit big seems to always get him in early foul trouble. You also have to factor in that he rarely sees time in the 4th qtr.

I wouldn't change the line-up just yet, but until I see DJ playing smart and not limit his time, getting 3 second call in every game, and playing physical man on man defense, I'm still going to call a spade a spade.

What do you guys think about picking up Vince Carter? I still think Aminu will develop into a good SF for the Clippers, but Vince Carter can be a solid fit in there for the next couple years until Aminu grows.

Vince Carter has a buyout of 4 million for his last year. The Magic paid that amount to the Suns when when they traded him. The Suns ain't going to pay his outrageous salary so it's safe to assume the Suns ain't keeping him. Carter will not get anything close to what he's getting now. With the new CBA coming up, it's safe to assume all contracts will be cut across the board. He can be had for a reasonable price...That is assuming the Suns buy him out. Great chance of that happening.

prince is a defensive player and not much of a scorer...WE NEED SCORING...

Oj Mayo is a chucker and i really dont like him...but he is the type of guy we need...someone who atleast jacks up stupid shits as opposed to not getting off one at all....

...actually Prince is a pretty good shooter with a LTFG% of .465 and .371% from 3PT....he could be a short time fix also.

Those shooting numbers are a lot like Ryan Gomes... Because of his age and the fact that he's only a marginal offensive player, Prince is not where I'd go for help at SF.

I don't want prince. He's old now, idk how he even fits into this team. Prince from 3 years ago? Sure. But not now.

Prince is just the type of player a team needs to make a push for/in the playoffs. He could do wonders mentoring Aminu seeing as they have similar frames and would play similar roles on this team. On this team he could do more of what he did with the contending pistons which is concentrate on D.

He also brings a championship pedigree to the team and would actually allow us to keep Kaman. Anyone else that is not Melo, Granger, or Iggy, we would probably be vastly overpaying for.

i dont want prince either plus he just said that he wants to be traded to a contender clearly we are not that...

Of course I'm not talking about trading for him. Summer aquisition, and keeping Kaman. The other alternative is trading Kaman for a premium SF.

First ill start off by discrediting all other trades besides Prince, then explain the numerous ways why Prince makes sense. Obviously Melo fits but the cost via trade is too great since hed leave 2 NY come summer. So many of you contradict yourselves by exclaiming the need for offensive SF then offer Iggy as a solution; Iggy is a SG not a SF and scores the majority of his buckets off the break so bringing him to the Clipps to play an undersized 3 where he'll end up guarding guys like Kevin Durant or Lebron James or even a Lamar Odom wholl break him down off the dribble or shoot over him makes his offense off the breaak moot cause he s gettin no stops. Gerald Wallace is a baller but what scares me about him has much to do with his nickname "Crash". He plays great D but is so relentless in sacrificing his body to make a play i would fear him and Blake would end up crashing into eachother on more than one occassion, we need only one person being so divinely reckless w/Griffin out there. Now to Prince. Style of play he is a defensive minded 6'9 SF with a 7ft wingspan who has been knocking down perimeter shots since his days at kentucky but is all about team and is willing to make the extra pass as well as being smart enough to collaps on help Def. He was born in Compton so him and Baron are friends from way back, and he played with Eric Gordon on Team USA so theres already apparent chemistry there. Being he is 31 and Aminu is 19, in 2-3 yrs Prince can serve as the catalyst in Aminus breakthrough in the big leagues and can both switch from starter to bench and there be no drop off. Also to those who say he has no offense he just finished against Granger with 25 and 11. Granger finished with 28 but only cause mcgrady starts which as we know will cause constant help D cause he has none. PRINCE is the SF who holds the greatest overall value for this team. Bring Tayshaun home to LA.

Marvin has under acheived in a big way since he came into the league... He was one of those guys with big upside, but couldn't play.
