Billups opts out

Clippers Forum » Clipper Rumors

Chauncey Billups has opted out of his contract. I know we've talked before about getting him. He's 30 years old and could contribute for a few years anyways. I would think the Clippers would go after him if they miss Acie Law and take Nick Young or someone else over Jarvaris Crittendon. We'll still need to find that backup who can start in the future, and that could be Darren Collison. No need to re-sign Hart if we can get Billups. I think he's still got a few good years left in the tank and that would provide instant offense and leadership. The only question is if he'll take the mid-level exception or will he want to make more.

What are your thoughts?

Yes, Billups would be a great pickup. He'd solidify this team (better than the Andre Miller fiasco). You're exactly right on what this would mean for the other potential transactions. With him and Sam on the team, I'd have to shave my head! Seriously, I'd love this move

But I think the chances of this are not good. He will probably take a similar offer to stay with Detroit, and other teams can offer more $ under the cap. So the Clippers are not the best buyer out there. Unless LAC has a team he'd like to play for (i.e. would LAC+Chauncy have better playoff potential than Detroit+Chauncy or Cleveland+Chauncy?). Stupid salary cap.

Sign and trade could be an option...but oops i forgot, who would they want from us besides our key pieces. Yeah, ether, like you said, the only way he'll end up here is if he likes his chances here.

To be redundant from another subject, except for EB and maybe CK which 2-3 pieces are key enough to keep if Billups is available?

Well I would consider Maggette a key piece. There's no point in trading a starter to get Billups...cause we gain little edge there.

We need to get a PG/SG like Young or Fernandez if we get Billups we'll make the playoffs again if we had them players

Remember this guys next season is going to be one of the hardest for this franchise to make the playoffs because the western conference is getting tougher year by year.

Top 5 ready to play is Alice Law he's the best available for us
