Korolev's Future?

Clippers Forum » Clipper Rumors

We haven’t seen much of Korolev this season, apart from his point-per-minute performance (5points in 5minutes), as we did not pick up the option on his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. There is word that the other teams of Pheonix and Toronto have an interest in the long, talented Korolev is this a threat to our chances of signing him at the end of the season?

Personally, if I were Sterling I would sign Korolev up for a long-term contract because his talent is very rare and he has not even shown a fraction of his potential yet due to limited minutes and the fact that we are loaded at his position.

Would you like to see him back? Or would you prefer to let him walk?

Well I think that he's not playing because he can't play much defense, so I doubt the Clippers would re-sign him unless it's for cheap. Obviously Dunleavy saw something in him but he has to be considered a bust for now esp. considering other players drafted lower than him doing much better. It'd would be nice if the Clippers could get something for him, however.

I wish we could have signed Will Conroy and released Korolev. But thats a bit far fetched.

With Baby Shaq and Diaz supposedly available for next year's team...and two first round picks possibly...There's no point in keeping Korolev. I know he was a first rounder and has lots of potential...This team doesnt need more potential (it's had too much of that in the past). We need some young guys who have proven themselves on either the college level or the NBA level and more chemistry. Nothing against Korolev, but if we're not gonna use him, it isnt gonna help to resign him.

Yeah definitely- I'm sure he probably wouldn't want to re-sign with the team either.

They are some good points, roster space may become an issue with Sofo coming over next year, which we all have to hope he does, and to a lesser extent Diaz coming over. The fact that this draft is so strong also means that there is enough talent to replace Korolev for a cheaper price.

I would have liked to have been exposed to a glimpse of the potential which Dunleavy saw in him, which influenced him to give Korolev the promise of drafting him, because he sounded like an exciting player, drawing parallels to Kirilenko in some cases.

We better snatch up Jared Dudley in the draft. That guy is an animal.

In my opinion if Korolev hadn't been picked by the Clips he still would be playing no minutes in CSKA Moscow...What I wanna say is that we threw a pick to the bin...Maybe our talent evaluator drunk too much vodka when he visited him in Russia Wink.I can't find any other explanation.I would like to know who is our scouting in Europe, too...

Hahah yeah who knows- I remember it was reported that Dunleavy personally went there to scout him a couple times and loved the guy. They should've picked a player who's established- either in Europe or in college. I mean Korolev didn't even have much experience, and it wasn't like he had freakish physical talents.

Korolev...what a joke. And we can't really blame the kid. Dumbleavy was the guy who messed that up. You don't promise an 18 year old Russian kid that you're going to draft him with the 12th pick, and then pass up on better, more developed players. That was just a wasted pick. Then after drafting him, you don't play him??? Or send him to the developmental league??? At least Korolev got a few million dollars, front row seats to every Clipper game, and some PR experience for all the times the team made him go out to deliver the "welcome/thank you" message to the fans before certain games. He made out...but the Clippers sure didn't. Thanks again Dumbleavy!

I just wished we had Bobby Simmons he was great for us. Korolev didn't impress me at tall he wasn't productive in the 2 years they should've put him in the NBDL first. Plus wasted picks on 12th and 36th pick on Paul Davis which didn't play consistent too. We need a true fundmental head coach who knows how to build a whole foundation as a true competitive team.

I arrived at a Clipper game very early two years ago , before the teams came out to warm up. Korolev was on the floor with an assistant coach for shooting practice. He was moving around the 3 point line hitting about 80% of his shots, maybe even 90%. It was a scary exhibition of shooting. He actually looked a little like a young Jerry West shooting jump shots. So he has some skills. But we haven't seen enough to figure out what that would be other that outside shooting. But there are other dead eye shooters around the NBA who come off the bench for instant offense, who are not necessarily great defenders and maybe can not drive to the hoop. But Korolev, like others, may be able to make a living in this league if he can just shoot.

Korolev was in a lose-lose situation. The few times he played he looked so scared I thought he's pee his pants. He didn't play much because of lack of confidence and he lacked confidence 'cause he didn't play much. Needed D league. His time and ours should have been better spent.
