Clippers at Utah Jazz Game Day 2025-02-13

Clippers Forum » Clippers Game Day

Please post your predictions for the upcoming contest vs. the Utah Jazz. What must the Clippers do earn a win? Which Jazz player should Clips focus on? How will Ben Simmons do in is first Clipper game?

Is Ben Simmons playing?

Simmons IS playing and stripped the Jazz for an extra possession and a lay in!

Simmons to Bogdonovic for a trey to close in on the Jazz ending the 3rd quarter!

Not bad for a pair of newbies!

Happy to see Bogdonovic putting up the shots and not hesitating (even though he just missed).

Gonna need Harden to make some free throws...

We were first to 100 - let's prove THE LAW right!

Harden makes one free throw, timeout ices him...

But Clippers recover and Norm is able to dish to Simmons for another lay in!

Yikes... haven't scored in how many possessions and Jazz chipped back into tie the game. And now offensive board an 0.7 seconds to run away with it.

Over... Time...

Not sure how we this game goes to overtime with no Jordan Clarckson (I know we have not Kawhi...)

Batum is so clutch... with a nice feed from Simmons

Turnover. Turnover.

WHAT OFFENSE ARE WE RUNNING.

I am so tired of Ty Lue and the LA Clippers half court offense.

There is rudimentary structure that results in soooooo many turnovers.

Clips by 5 with 25 seconds left.... Jazz ball.

Hi everyone,

I think after the trade deadline, we've gotten worse! Bogdanovic is supposed to be a shooter, but he can't shoot! And he's defense was huh, whatever. Terance Mann played good defense and can knock down a few 3s.

The Kevin Porter Jr. replacement, Ben Simmons is a joke. He can't shoot 3s. In today's NBA, if you can't shoot 3s, you are a major liabiltiy. It's basically playing 4 vs 5. He just brings up the ball to half court and dumps the ball to Harden. At least Kevin Porter Jr. was relieving Harden, taking up 20 min/game. He wasn't great, but he'll knock down a few 2s or 3s and play defense.

So without Mann, and Kevin Porter Jr. we are are trouble. We will burn out Harden and Simmons. They will eventually get hurt and we are done.

Kawhi Leonard plays every other game and gives you 15 points.

This season started out with very good hope, but with these new trades, I am afraid we have major setbacks!

A good win!!

I think Utah didn't know how to figure out Simmons, he was key in small ball when they were just shooting the 3-pointer and they became unstoppable and Zu couldn't do anything.

Simmons was able to keep the defense in the 5 positions, and even though Utah knew he wasn't going to shoot, but they didn't expect him to be aggressive in the penetrations, above all the IQ was in his favor distributing the assists in a great way.

The versatility he gave to the team was very relevant this time, nobody expects the opposing team's center to dribble the ball except Jockic, in my opinion that gave Harden a rest to be ready in key moments, Simmons brought the ball up, it seems easy, the complicated thing is that he knew he only needed to get to the other side and find Harden in a good position, here for example, Kawhi doesn't do it, when they give him the ball basically his mind goes into attack mode and begins his crossover, however Simmons is clearly a born point guard, he deciphers what is happening in the game and measures the times.

Maybe it was just a good game from Simmons, who I personally haven't followed since he left the 76ers and I don't know how he has been playing during the last tournaments, only news that is not favorable for him.

I hope Bogdan recovers his shooting rhythm, that would help the team a lot.

Great points here. I'm not expecting this same level of scoring from Simmons again. I couldn't watch the game due to work, but checking the box score was a bit of a welcome surprise. I thought he'd log a triple sing with a bit of a higher end on the assists. I think we all expected Simmons to contribute assists and defense, but this was a good night (by this year's standard) on the scoring end.

Game highlights:

What a game! Great comeback. Powell hit all the big shots and Harden was terrific as well. Simmons played with Harden in an effective small lineup- filled up the stat sheet too.

I know Simmons gets a bad rap but I still like what his game stands for even if he's not as effective due to the injuries and what not. Every time he gets the ball, he's looking to pass unless he has a clear mismatch or clear lane to the bucket. Still a team player all the way

LAC_12, Great job subbing for David…lol.

It was indeed a feel good win before the break. Teams are prone to put a lethargic effort before a long break and the last game of a long road trip. Utah put up a spirited fight but glad we won.

Norm and JH carried us. Simmons was good and hope he continues this kind of production. In Spite of being a new guy, he did a great job on the floor. Dunn has produced another very good defense performance.

Also hope that Norm and JH don’t get burned especially when they are playing lot of minutes.

Now, the clippers should build chemistry with this newly acquired guys and try to make some noise in the WC.

I was excited to get off work in time to catch the game - and OT?

Not thrilled to go to OT with the Jazz (without J Clarkson), but at least we walk away with a W.

I am sorry, I have to disagree... You make some good points (potentially). But you are basing this off of one game?

And the ONE game in question, both players played decently...

I will be the first person to say I miss TMann, but Bogdonavic is a shooter... he's supposed to make it at a higher rate, but just the fact that he can launch the rock with no hesitation is a blessing. All these hesitation, pump fake, double pump pass business does nothing for us but allow defenses to recover. You can pass up a shot for a better shot, sure. But sometimes you gotta launch that rock.

He launched it 6 times, and I hope the makes will follow... but he is a more willing and more specialized shooter than TMann. Also his defense was not lacking too much, the man had 3 steals (active hands).

Also good point about Ben, but as a mobile big body he can maneuver through the lane... he would be more of a liability if he wasn't willing to put up shots, or was ineffective with the ball... He attacked the rim and racked assists. I think we have surrounded him with enough shooting to give him space to operate (Bogi included in that assessment). Ben had 12pts and 6 assists! Not to mention was a menace on the defensive end - 7 boards a block and 3 steals?

How can you watch this game and be disappointed from the new pieces. I agree with your assessment of the elements and peices we lost, but we gained a different skillset. Trades are not meant to be one for one replacements... clearly we were addressing specific needs. I think we did OK, and there is a lot of potentital the new peices unlocks! So I am more hopeful!

They looked good *(also do not want to get too high off of one performance).
