U.S. Open 2021: Will There Be a Calendar Grand Slam?
Clippers Forum » Everything ElseI tried to post "Will we see a calendar grand slam" as a part of the title, and it rejected it, saying WE is not an allowed word for a subject.
Why is that?
A lot of the big guns out on the women's side- Osaka, Barty... Gold medalist Bencic might be the favorite now- she's playing really well. That win over Swiatek was impressive.
Looking forward to a possible Zverev vs Djokovic match- that should be something. Zverev has really improved, so let's see if he can go next-level.

I was disappointed Tsitsipas already lost, as I wanted as many contenders as possible to give Djokovic a test.
On the womens side, there was some kind of stat that every top 10 seeded player who started a match, made the 3rd round, for the first time since 2001 or something. I'll try to go back on the DVR and see what the stat was, if I get a chance.
So considering that so many seeds were winning early on, it's been funny how so many have lost now the past few days. Halep and Kerber both gone.
My pre-tourney pick of Karolina Pliskova still looks decent. Of course, I usually make bad ones where my predicted players lose early, haha.
Wheelchair player Dylan Alcott is going for the golden slam.
Commentator and former ATP player Brad Gilbert said he tried wheelchair tennis once. He could not get the motion down of hitting a ball, and then moving your wheelchair. He said it was too hard / different.
Medvedev playing consistent, letting Djokovic make mistakes. I like the game plan.
He's up a break, could have gone up two but didn't. We'll see if that costs him, because against these greats, sometimes you need two breaks.
I didn't like Medvedev's chances before the Finals, but seeing how consistent he's playing, and how he fought off 0-40 on his serve, shows he's here to stay.
I believe in him now. Sure, it's easy to say after the match has started. But whatever, I admit I didn't like his chances as much as Zverev's or Tsitsipas' against Djokovic, but he's changed my mind.
That was an amazing US Open! Diede de Groot & Alcott able to complete the Golden Slams. Just as incredible was qualifier Raducanu winning- she has quite the future ahead. Not even dropping a set, and a complete player in terms of being able to do it from the baseline, serve, at the net, and not to mention the uncanny mental strength at just 18 years old.
Feel kind of bad for Djoker, but Mevedev was up to the task and won convincingly, not even losing a set in the final.
Hewett and Reid also won the wheelchair doubles calendar slam:

For Raducanu, I was impressed that she won 10 matches without dropping a set. However, I am not sure if she will play in more GS Finals.
Time will tell.
Ivanovic won at as a 20 year old, and never made it back to a Final. Kuznetsova was also good from 19-23, then fell off a little.
Keys hasn't been able to recapture her level from 4 years ago, as a 22 year old.
Raducanu has a chance, and I hope for her sake she does. But first, let's see how she deals with the new attention she will receive, over the next 1 - 2 years.
Medvedev playing almost the whole match without getting broken was also impressive. He did seem like he sped up at the end, when the crowd was being noisy against him, to show that it wasn't affecting him, but it did, as he missed serves.
I haven't really rooted for Medvedev or Zverev in the past, but I am glad that they gave Djokovic a sufficient challenge. Because other then them, I don't think Djokovic has really been challenged since the FO Finals. Losing a set was no big deal in his other matches, because in the remaining sets, his opponents never really had even a break chance.
I hope at least Nadal makes it back for the AO, so we can have two of the 3 major winners with 20 in the same draw.
This was the stat about the womens seeds holding to form, that I was referring to.
They started losing after that.
