Fishing in California

Clippers Forum » Everything Else

I have got an itch to go fishing after all the Clipper pre-season videos and pre-postseason restart vids...

Seems like our crew can fish!

So I want to ask our board... have y'all gone fishing?

Any intro reads (books, magazines, articles), videos, podcasts... I should look at?

Want to organize a hiking trip to Yosemite, but the boys insist on bringing their rods and making it a fishing/hiking trip.

I want to accommodate and I want to join in on the fishing fun.

Please feel free to "drop a line" and let me know about your experiences. Certain areas in Yosemite that are better for fishing? Best time to go (season)? Must have accessories or techniques to know?

I am all ears!

I've never done it before.

Have you fished before?

Sounds like a good family trip you have coming up.

I've been to Bishop before (as well as Kern) and few fishing trips that I do not remember.

This trip will be towards Yosemite and I will follow up with you guys how it goes.

Cool, have a good trip.

I got 2 rounds of fishing done around Yosemite. It seems I never can get any fishing done in the park because I love to maximize my hiking in the park, but on "off-days" I got some fishing done at:

-Bass Lake (SW of Yosemite)

-Greenstone Lake (E of Yosemite on Twenty Lakes trail)

I do not recommend Bass Lake, as it is large and heavily used for boating and jet skis as well as other commercial activities (although one can get up very early and fish the calm waters - as one should - before people storm to it around 8am.)

There were creeks that feed Bass Lake and a Dam nearby that was recommended to us, but we only had one day to fish and did not make it to multiple spots.

East of Yosemite is beautiful and the Twenty Lakes hike gives one many options to fish (groups of lakes). I got a few bites, but could not catch the buggers. It was very exciting just to be in the area. Fishing at Greenstone allowed for me to calm down and enjoy the area - if I had more time I would have stopped at more lakes in the area if I had more time.

Thanks for sharing.

Glad you got to relax, especially at Greenstone.
