Rumor: Kevin Durant to the Clippers in 2019?!

Clippers Forum » Clipper Rumors
Tim Bontemps from the Washington Post was answering fan questions on Reddit and he said he would be shocked if Durant was on any team besides the Knicks, Clippers or Warriors. He thinks the Knicks are the most likely but that the Clippers will be the alternative if he doesn’t go Knicks! And also that he thinks Kawhi will come here with Durant! I could totally see Durant loving playing for Ballmer since he is all in to the tech side. Plus if him and Kawhi led us to a championship they would go down as the greatest....

I love this rumor!

Durant, Kawhi, and a lengthy center would make us a defensive nightmare.

You add Shai in at PG and either Tobias or Gallo, that’s a crazy team. I am a Clippers fan so I am always pessimistically optimistic but, I am dreaming about this coming true. Kawhi and Durant would be legends of legends for turning this into a Champion (if they came here and they won). Endorsement deals would be up the wazzoo and especially awesome if they did it while LeBron was playing for the Lakers!

I imagine Jerry West played a role in him joining the Warriors in the first place. Could happen again.

That’s what I am thinking. Can’t believe this thread only has three responses, is it not controversial enough? Maybe I should have said Durant will only come here if Doc Rivers is fired

I love that rumor too!

Clippers fans are just used to the drill of superstars using the clippers’ name as leverage and also free publicity.

Over the past few years we haven't laded a marquee free agent. The Clippers are essentially just the leverage players use to get a better contract or a trade to somewhere else. Kawhai, was rumored to want the Clippers as one of his top two teams, ended up in Toronto. Butler was rumored to want to come here too, still in Minnesota...Lebron wanted to come to Los Angeles in order to be close to his son...he chose the Lakers. Even our last major signing, Chris Paul, only ended up here because his beloved Lakers were denied the chance to get him due to Stern nixing the deal...I think many of us are fed up with the constant let down. This is only one reason, although, not the main reason why I would rather rebuild rather than try for trades and free agents.

I would be super conflicted if we lost Ralph Lawler AND added spineless Durant. I don't care how good of a player he is, he is sackless and I hate him.

That's some spin C4. Kawahi and Butler both had no choice - team controlled their destinations. Both have one year left, both are still saying Clippers. Lebron never said a word about Clippers and used Clippers for nothing,

Lol, back to back finals MVP would be a great addition.

true, but nonetheless the overall outcome was nothing. I suppose the gist is that clippers fans may not be super excited about the concept of Durant because so many trades or free agent decisions go against them. I think over the years so many opportunities were missed, so I think that's the key enthusiasm turns is replaced by pessimism when we don't land anyone good

I would venture a guess that most fans aren’t as pessimistic as you seem to be. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

KD + Kawhi Clippers 2019- why not?

I honestly don’t like KD and don’t want him here at all. I’m all for Kawhi and whoever else but please no KD. I’m sure I’d say something different if he actually ended up here but ugh he’s so annoying

Who's owner doesn't like Durant on his team, I don't expect too much of Durant coming here but if it happens so be it. I would love to see him and Kawhi in the Clippers uniform, but that's not the story this season, it's Bobi, Tobi and the Clippers Smile.

Seems like West was critical in Durant coming to GS, would be awesome if he could bring him here

No way Durant leaves the comfort of GSW to go to a team where he’s the only superstar. So if Durant does decides on the clippers, you can bet that we’re getting Kawhi as well

Definitely agree with that thinking. And if Shai continues to shine, that could be a big attractor for Star Free agents looking for a good young PG that compliments their game
