Rumor: Clippers Interested In Caron Butler
Clippers Forum » Clipper RumorsReally Doc? This is the best you can think of? I'd rather have Hedo than this retread....
Snore....
I'd rather have Kareem. Or MJ. Or Hakim Olijuwan. Or Shaq. Or..................
Someone tell me this is a joke.
IF we're getting Paul Pierce (who is nearly twice as good as Caron at this point) we won't need any additional veterans on the roster. Alonzo Gee or Wes Johnson would obviously be much better options than Caron.
MAYBE as a 3rd stringer at best.
Caron as our 2nd string SF? Absolutely f*cking not.
Caron as our 3rd string SF? Again, absolutely f*cking not.
IF we get Pierce, then go after Landry Fields (1st choice IMO) or Gee for minimum we are in much better shape at that spot in a while.
Caron actually shot 38% from deep last season. He would be a solid backup for the vet minimum playing ~15 to 20 minutes a game. But obviously if there are better options the Clippers should pursue instead as Tuff Juice might not have that much more in the tank.
Butler? Really! How Bout we get Dudley too... Why not. Mullens is he available? Reggie and Kenyon!!! Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Please get creative Doc, please don't let this nonsense be true. I liked Butler but he was old back then. I'd rather go with Royce White as a back up. If you can't get Chandler for Jamal and stuff then try for another guy anybody don't just give up and say ok guys lets go get us an old vet who can sit on the bench with a bunch of ice on his knees! Give Jason Powel a brake for crying out loud. I was like WOW !!! When Doc finally made a deal Ike the Lance one and I'm still hoping all this rumor stuff is garbage and tomorrow will have another good favorable trade go our way and be excited yet again...
As sad as it may seem, I wouldn't be surprised if Caron Butler was our starting SF next year.
I would be HONORED to have Caron Butler back on the Clippers in ANY capacity. He signed with us during the lockout BEFORE we traded for Chris Paul, believing that he could help Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon turn the Clippers into a Championship team (still our biggest free agent signing since Baron Davis).
We could definitely use his leadership, and I'm pretty sure he has more to offer than the combination of Hedo Turkoglu and Dahntay Jones.
I love him as an option but he's definitely not our final solution. We still definitely need a young guy at the wing for the long-term, but I don't think we're doing too bad with Caron on our Bench.
If it's not bad enough Caron was traded to the Bucks TWICE, this would be insane. That JJ deal goes from what it should of been Butler for JJ swap to Bledsoe for Dudley. This would be classic spit in the face move.
Please tell me this isn't true. I know this is a rumor but why even consider these players that are way past there prime?
Iam excited to see what Hobson and white can do, I rather take my chances with them. And I'm praying Doc can move Jamal for Robert Covington. ** crossing my fingers
I'd imagine if they are trying to get Butler it will be for a vets min, simply to add depth to the team with a solid player. Butler may be old but he can hit threes and free throws. People are mentioning Fields and Gee who aren't very clutch and probably don't do what the Clippers brass wants. Butler would also be a guy they could unload at some point in the year as well, in a package with Crawford. There are teams that would take on Crawford and Butler, or flat out Butler to get a veteran presence so we could get a fill in guy before the deadline.
Sometimes moves are made to better the team in different ways. With Fields and Gee one doesn't fully know what to expect. Butler has played with these guys before and knows exactly what he can and cannot do at this point in his career and would be a safer bet. If he gets hurt or stinks, I'd imagine no money in his contract would be guaranteed. There will be plenty of free agents left over once the season starts for the team to look at. Remember, guys are playing overseas or in the D League and the team could always use Butler as a filler to mentor Dawson and the two could split minutes playing backup SF as the season goes along.
Would love Caron back as a 3rd or 4th SF in a similar role to Hedo last year. As long as he accepts not playing much, he would be awesome for our locker room.

First season as a Knick Fields was excellent and was one of my favorite players (Almost a 50/40 season too!). Then he seemed to be poorly utilized and loss most of his confidence and never got back to form. Wouldn't mind seeing him on the Clips as a backup. Low risk, mid reward.
I would take Dudley back
.
Let's not.
I hope doc can do a little better than this especially because the west is looking to get even worse now. The girzz had talks with the nets about Joe Jhonson, and Galo. The Spurs are a legit team to snag Aldridge, the lakers are actually drawing Interest from players such as Aldridge, Jimmy butler, d-wade. To top it off rumors say that Dallas has a good chance to snag up DJ so I hope doc does better than butler. I don't want a superstar per say but resign DJ sign pierce trade Crawford for another wing player I like robert Covington too @clipstilllIdie he can actually stretch the floor unlike hawes and plays defence. Maybe instead of looking at butler why not look at Gerald green instead younger more athletic and another spark.
If they want to bring him in for leadership and to be a locker room presence, just make him an assistant coach, he's at that point in his career.
@Fray 27
Gerald Green is definitely a better option over Caron. Hell.. Give me Micheal Beasley, I'll take my chances if I was Doc. Why not?? We already have Nutso Lance Stephenson.
Truth is we have to look at guys that can actually run the floor if not how are we suppose to keep up with Golden St, who are only going to get better.
this feels like the FO has hired some sabermetric person who's Powerbook told them this is a great idea.
@clipstillIdie for some reason I feel that we're going to keep Jamal and try to trade him in FEB and its that the case and PP comes I bet doc uses Jamal as our back up SF
This actually sounds like a good old move from days of yore when advanced numbers didn't exist quite yet.
No saber metric/advanced stats guy would be recommending a waaaay over the hill Butler, unless it's for another team, lol.
If we sign Caron it be a move to add depth, i like it.
