The verbal, five-year deal is believed to be in the $80-million range. Philadelphia was the latest team to join the bidding frenzy for Brand, who opted out of his contract with the Clippers last week
Unbelievable- I cannot believe it!!!
If he would just walk out like that, he does not seem to be a man of his word anyways and so just let him go. Brand is not irreplaceable.
There is still Josh Smirh and Emeka Okafor as options.

No, I think the Clippers did everything correctly this time. The front office didn't have complete information at the time, and it was right for them to treat Brand with utmost respect with the expectation that Brand would be a gentleman too.
We'll bounce back quickly, without the help of Elton Brand.

lol man 2 days ago everyone would say that sentence is way off base but not today. F***ing unbelievable. we did everything h asked how the f*** does this happen.
And we matched their offer and he still walked. Brand is supposed to be one of the classiest and most noble players in the sport and this is what happens. I still remember going to one of the last Clipper games and Brand coming out and apologizing for the season and that'd HE'D make it up to us....

^^Yeah he turned around and gave it to us instead. OMG- it's almost akin to a WWE show where a top wrestler turns heel (becomes a bad guy). Unfortunately for us it's all too real. I never thought I would say this but Elton Brand, to me, is public enemy #1 right now.
Man we threw Maggette to the side for we can get Baron Davis for him. I lost all respect for Elton. I remember meeting Elton the last Clippers home game and he said Ill be back next year. I hope we can get Maggette back. No matter what he was always up front with the FO. Im glad he hasnt signed with anybody. I say bring back Maggette for more then the MLE. I cant wait till the 76ers come to Staples and give it to Brand.
Seriously David lol....I'm still stunned. This doesn't even feel real. I'm baffled by the fact that he's been quoted saying he wants to remain a clipper and finish his career here yet here we are...losing our "franchise player" the game who had all the class. I hope he gets quoted saying he made a big mistake.

wow, wow, wow. my friend just sent me a text from cali and i told him it was just rumors than got on my cpu and found out the horrible news. i thought very highly of brand and im in absolute shock he would do this!
Our main concern is to keep Baron and seek out the best possible PF in the market or in a trade. If we can get Josh Smith we will become younger and with a lot of upside. Thornton, Gordon , Kaman & baron is a good nucleus to start with.
Time to make lemonade out of lemons folks. Whats done is done.

We should look for players that we can get in a trade as well, such as Boris Diaw or Rasheed Wallace, or players we can steal away cheaply like Rony Turiaf. There is also a possibility of trading Mobley+Thomas+Draft picks for Vince Carter. There are still a lot of options, as we really don't have any bad contracts.
The article says Maggette is going to the warriors....i really did not think this was possible
The world just turned itself inside out. How did this happen? Even the broadcasters can't give a good explanation as to why Brand bolted for Phily. They say:
1) its easier in the east (Phily still can't win with him in the east and he has to know that by looking at the lineup)
2) more money (if he wanted more money he'd go to GS)
3) he wants to be closer to home (its still more than an hour away from his hometown)
Had to revive this thread. This day started a new beginning in Clipper history. With the betrayal of long time loved Elton Brand and departure of Corey Maggette the Clippers returned to the bottom pit of the league and won the lottery. We al know who was the prized first pick became. For once the Clippers didn't waste the pick on some stiff like they always did. We drafted Blake Griffin who made the Clippers an attractive team and eventually landed us CP3. Now instead of being a joke franchise like normal, the Clippers are now a perinnial playoff team with a minor move or 2 away from being legit Championship Contenders.
In conclusion, I just have give my thanks to Mr. Brand for LeBronning us the way he did. Had we kept Elton, the Clippers would have been fighting for a playoff spot and would probably lose out on a playoff seed and the #1 draft pick. We'd be stuck with his God awful contract and would continue to live up to our typical mediocracy.
