Matt Barnes and Wife Gloria Govan Have Split Up?

Clippers Forum » Clipper Rumors

I was reading the Twitter feed here at TopBuzz from all our players and noticed Matt Barnes' tweet thanking Living Spaces for furnishing his new condo. Looks like Matt and his wife have split up, according to TMZ. I wonder if this was another reason Doc gave Matt a night off from playing on Monday against the Jazz.

Too bad about this. This could be a huge distraction and stress for Matt during the remaining preseason games and beyond. I hope he can work it out with his wife.

Yeah, I saw that tweet too. I thought maybe he'd gotten a....

That's tough- best wishes for Matt going forward. Unfortunately his mental state seems to have a lot to do with his on-court production (e.g. playing much better after the trade deadline last season), and he hasn't exactly done well thus far in the pre-season. But hopefully things can turn around for him sooner than later.

Oh man, it might affect Matt a decent amount, and can't blame him if he does, but sucks for him

Matt has gone through a lot between his mother, aunt, etc. We should be respectful and let them hash it out between themselves and not draw attention to it. He's a hard worker and hope he and his wife can push through.. Praying for the kids as well

Thank you, David and/or Cleepers for revising my post in the SF Discussion thread into this new thread. Wasn't sure if I should.

I was hoping that Matt was trying to getting a new condo just so he could be closer to the practice facility too, but it seems like he and his wife did indeed split up according to more sources other than TMZ. This is so sad. While this is a very difficult situation for Matt and his family, I hope he can find a way to focus on his game during the regular season.

Damn, I feel bad for his kids. That's terrible.

Though on the selfish bright side, look at what happened to Tim Duncan when he got divorced.

yeah very bad thing to happen to a good guy. Most athletes are so far removed from the fans, but Barnes is an incredibly nice guy. He will definitely be letting this trickle down into his game.

“They’ve been great,” Barnes said. “The majority of the guys on the team know what I’m going through and they’re very supportive. They know when I’m down to talk to me. Everybody has been great here. It’s been a great support system. Between my team and my kids, that’s really all I got right now.”

As Barnes ties his shoes and gets ready to leave the locker room, he looks at his twins jumping up and down in front of him and smiles.

“I love them,” Barnes said. “Besides winning that’s the best thing to see the world, being able to see their smiling faces and hanging out with them. I’m going to get my game on track and I’ll be that same player when counted on all last year. It’s been hard but I’ll be back soon.”

Another player I wouldn't mind is a trade for Thaddeus young. I know people are gonna say what are we gonna trade for him, but would if he force his way to a contender, he has a player option this year and can opt out, lowering the Timberwolves leverage for him.
