Sometime within the next two weeks, I will get to my thoughts on the US Open Womens Finals. I know I never posted about it. Men's Draw: Djokovic's Quarter: Djokovic vs Tsonga 2nd round: I hope Tsonga can make it competitive. But I haven't seen much from Tsonga the past few years. Djokovic in 3. Djokovic vs. Shapovalov 3rd round: Shapovalov has talent, so there's a chance this could be a good match. But Djokovic will most likely win in 3. Nishikori vs. Karlovic 2nd round: Nice contrast of styles. Nishikori in 4. Djokovic vs. Nishikori QF: I don't think Nishikori does that well here. Djokovic in 3. Alexander Zverev's Quarter: Zverev vs. Wawrinka 4th round: Wawrinka in 4. Drops the first set, but gets stronger as the match goes on. Thiem vs. Wawrinka QF: I don't have as much confidence in Wawrinka to win consecutive tough matches right now. But oh well, I'll still pick him. Wawrinka in 4. Federer's Quarter: FED could lose in the QF to whomever he faces, but I'll still pick him to win the quarter. Nadal's Quarter: Anderson vs. Nadal QF: Anderson has won enough big matches to have a chance. Nadal in 3. Djokovic vs. Wawrinka SF: It's been several years since we've had this on the big stage. I usually pick Wawrinka, but I don't trust his health. It's been 1.5 years, and side of his FO Finals run in 2017, he just seems to have lost something. Djokovic in 3. FED vs. Nadal SF: Nadal usually wins this, even on outdoor hard courts. But FED's been better lately in this matchup. FED in 3. Djokovic vs. FED Finals: It's been a long time since FED has won this matchup at a major. I'll take Djokovic in 3 for....

Sorry just saw this. Well you're right about Djoker & Osaka making it to the semis. Collins had a great run finally ended by Kvitova. That was impressive though 6-0 6-2 against Kerber. Looks like it will be Novak vs Nadal in the finals- that should be an epic match as both are in top form. That was a bit surprising to see Tsitsipas beat Federer, so I guess he has a decent chance to beat Rafa. Rafa though- he's just going for winners whenever he can, and the serve looks tough to return than ever. If it does come down to Nadal vs Djokovic- I think Rafa will have a slight edge just based upon how I've seen him play thus far.

That was a historic choke by Serena vs Pliskova- up 5-1, serving at 40-15. Right now though I think Kvitova would have an edge over Pliskova or Osaka- we'll see.

Most years during the AO, there will be one or two nights were I watch the 12am / 12:30 am "night" session, so I'm caught up heading into the next day. But not this year. So at the start of each evening, I was always catching up on the late night match from the previous "day" at the AO. So hence I couldn't post much in between this time, because I wasn't caught up. Disappointed Wawrinka lost to Raonic. This is the best I've seen Wawrinka look in a few years. For the most part, he hasn't looked as good as usual, when he came back from injury in 2017. When the tourney was winding down, I was rooting for Pliskova, because she's never won it. Or for Kvitova, to see her win somewhere outside of Wimbledon, and to see her win after her home invasion attack. Congrats to Osaka, she played great all tourney. I don't agree with the broadcasters in calling her a "power" player. But I think she gets great angles on her serve. That Serena vs. Pliskova was one of the most unusual things I've seen. Funny, it can happen to anyone then. Tsitsipas looked very good against Federer. I thought he would play better against Rafa, especially since they had a close match last year. But during this SF, he couldn't handle Nadal's ball at all. I agree I'd pick Nadal in the Finals over Djokovic. I hope they can play a great match like they did at the 2012 AO. I know Isner usually doesn't do well at the AO, but losing in 4 sets that all went to tiebreaks, is tough. Between Collins, and CoCo Vandeweghe a few years ago, pretty cool to see an American woman get to the SFs at the....

Oh, and Isner's opponent in the first round was taller than him.

Dunno- I do consider Osaka a power player as well. Her shots can be pretty devastating, and yeah her serve is right up there with the best of the them. I think she even out-aced Kivitova.

That was very surprising to see Joker just dominate Nadal like that. I thought Rafa was playing amazing, but Novak just made him look like another victim- just fast, flat groundies that were deadly accurate. Zero fear of Nadal's forehand, and putting Nadal on the defensive all the time. Hats off to him.

And yeah that was shocking as well to see Isner bounced in the first round, but at least it was a fellow American.

As for Murray- it sounds like retirement is still up in the air. I think he is contemplating the same hip surgery that Bob Bryan had. That was kind of odd how some of the press assumed that this was going to be his final Australian Open when he kept saying that he hopes to come back next year, lol.
