Because they are four crappy picks and not everyone is as starry eyed about crappy low-end first round draft picks as "hope and potential" fans?

Brooklyn fans said the same thing when they gave up all those picks for garner, pierce, and Allen.Smile

Probably felt like four second rounders.

Brooklyn mostly sucked though. Rockets are contenders. Not the same situation at all. These are picks which might technically be worse than high second round picks due to the minimum contracts involved.

You just never know how a team will be 5-7 years out. Look at the Lakers, they were contenders and then started sucking hard.

When are the picks supposed to be given away? You can't give away consecutive picks, so if it is every other year, the Rockets would be giving up a draft pick way in the future, who says they would be good then? Sure, it if is their next 4 picks, then yes, they will likely all be in the 20's, though that is still not a bad haul. If it is a pick every other year, then that sound very enticing to me, but they probably put some protections on it to make it less enticing that we aren't be told about.

Also there's a lot of talk that Thibs doesn't really want to make a trade anyways, and he seems to want win now players, not draft picks, which means that while it is a good haul if you are trying to re-tool / re-build, if you are trying to win now, draft picks are not players. On the other hand, can't you get all those draft picks and then package some of them in other deals to improve?

Plus Thibs is trying to keep his job. If Bulter is gone, which will happen at some point this season, Thibs is probably done in Minny. This will more than likely be the last coach/gm combo we'll ever see in the league again.

With the new style of play predicated on offensive fire power coupled with the standard of this framework elevated by the Warriors this current roster is set to match-up against GS with defensive guards and offensive forwards. With Lou and Boban as X-Factors off the bench, maximizing this roster could rest in upgrading the starting center position. I'm a fan of Gortat who can body up with opposing big men while we have mobile/ slender forwards, but a more well rounded center may be the catalyst that propels the Clippers to move from the 6-8 seeds, to the 2-6 spots. Some may believe the 2nd seed is overly ambitious and out of reach but with the erosion of Houston/ San Antonio continuity those playoff positions are up for grabs. A trade of Gortat, when possible, could elevate our chances of really competing and and maintaining Los Angeles prominence while the Lakers attempt to figure out their line-ups with Lebron. I am thinking something like:

Gortat 13,565, 218 Ty Wallace 1,349,383 and 1,588,281

for

Nikola Vucevic 12,750,000

Also add in various draft picks on either side if necessary, maybe an added 2nd rounder from us. The swap of centers provides us the offensive upgrade and capable rebounder while providing Magic a center who can either start or back up Bamba and serve in a mentor role. Also they do not seem to have a starting quality PG and Wallace could be that guy but with the long list of guards he won't get that type of run with us. Dual lock down guards in Bev and Avery with three forwards/ Center who can score and rebound and eat up passing lanes with length may be the answer. Something to look into, and then sign Kawhi or Butler next season. This years line-up by seasons end could look like:

Shai Bradley Harris Danilo Vucevic

Lou Harrell Boban Beverly Robinson Scott

exactly. Brooklyn was also playoff bound when they gave up those picks trading for Garnett...after that, that team went south very quickly

Sure that sounds great! Can you please make that happen.

P.S....We still have Luc and Milos too. We are so damn deep.

yeah, I don't think many teams are going to do that again.

Butler is going to expect a max contract this summer. He's less worth it than Blake was. Say no, now.

Too bad Anthony Davis isn't a free agent.

In no universe is Blake better than Jimmy Butler. Butler has consistently had a MUCH higher PER, and he's a better defender than Blake, and he's consistently more healthy than Blake. This is Blake's best year ever, and Butler STILL has a higher PER than him. No, sorry, Butler is clearly better than Blake.

Over the last five years Jimmy Butler has averaged fewer points, rebounds and assists. He has also played on worse teams. In what world is he “clearly better” than Blake Griffin?

He has also averaged 65 games a year in that time. And you are ready to give him a max deal? Glad you are not the GM.

sam, I'm sort of torn buddy. What do we do with cap space? I've been all for drafting. Never put a thought to free agency😕who do we go for? What do we offer them?

You get the difference maker first. Kawhi seems to be that guy. If we get a Butler first then we are as stuck as we were with Blake. Not good enough and too near the cap to do much about it. You just can’t give max money out to someone who doesn’t get you where you want to be. You are better off waiting and building through the draft until your guy does arrive.

Philly. Damn. They are going to be scary. Jimmy fits great there and they kept their core. If I was the wolves I would have taken 4 first rounders...

A year ago Minnie trade Zach Lavigne, Kris Dunn, and Laurie Markanaan for Butler.

Thibs as bad a GM as Doc. He should just stick to coaching

East going to be more entraining in the playoff.

The west is boring and predictable because of the warriors

Agree, the 4 first rounds from Houston is a much better deal.

What are you going to do with Covington and Saric

I wouldn’t just jump to that conclusion. It’s clear Jimmy is quite dysfunctional, a player , but still dysfunctional. Kawhi doesn’t seem like the type to like that drama. But we will see.

The Houston deal included Brandon Knight who has more years on his contract than Saric and Covington I believe, and the Wolves I guess didn’t want that contract.

It was clear they didn’t want to trade him the West, which makes sense. They definitely get worse with this trade. I’m sure they had better offers going into the season, but Thibs being stubborn.

Saric and Covington isn’t bad though. Covington is a nice defensive player, and Saric is 24 and will probably be able to show more with maybe a larger role with Minnesota. It’s also very possible that Houston put protections on the picks that did no appeal to Minnesota.

Lol Kawhi did not say he will go wherever Butler go. He specifically mention "LA" as his preference.

This trade is exactly why i get so annoyed when people chime in on a proposed trade and criticize with comments like "that's a stupid trade. Minnesota would never go for that." As i look at the Butler trade it seems very one sided in favor of Philadelphia. This is why an effort always needs to be made.

Yeah, they will probably tank now and try to get a high lottery pick. If they do, you add that player to Towns, Wiggins, Saric and Covington and Teague, that’s not a bad team. Plus Tyus Jones off the bench, Georgia Dieng, and Josh’s okogie looks like he has some nice potential. They will be horrible this year, but in a year or two could be back in the playoff hunt. Not contenders but at least competitive

I think this ups our chances of getting Kawhi. There was so much drama with Butler that i think it would have been a detractor. I think our target is Kawhi and Durant

idk about Durant but 100% the Clippers are watching Leonard every move with Clippers scouts living in Toronto to keep any eye on Leonard. 😉

Leonard will come here depending on what else the team has.
